Oil Leaks
Initially, I had my guy diagnose a leaky power steering pump and reservoir, which I thought was weird so I obtained a second opinion. This other shop just told me that it's the oil filter housing and valve cover gaskets.
They want to reseal the oil filter housing, replace the housing seals, and pressure wash the engine. They also want to remove and replace both valve cover gaskets and all of the vapor(?) hoses.
I was quoted $2,000!
I just went online to authohausaz.com and discovered that I could purchase the majority of these parts for around $200. I'm just having trouble locating every little gasket and ring that I need for these projects....and what the heck is a vapor hose?

You can fix that yourself with minor knowledge and basic handtools. I would buy OEM gaskets or Elring. You also need rtv to seal breather chambers.

If I can make a strong suggestion, try this stuff. I have used it for years and swear by it. It is a polymer that looks like water. The polymer binds to seals and rejuvenates them by replumping/softening/re-expanding them.
It has stopped oil leaks cold in every car I’ve used it in. Can use in power steering fluid and tranny also.
1 bottle will cover 5 qts so for my E55, I used 2 bottles. Put in crankcase and then drive car for 500 miles or so.
You can buy this at Advance Auto Parts now. Get on Youtube and check out reviews. This stuff works. Good luck

I just did valve covers and breathers, one word of advice: make sure you use enough rtv sealant on the breathers. 2mm+ bead with no breaks or sloppy areas (and clean all the old sealant really well). I had one thin spot start weeping again and had to redo one side. Super easy a second time around, but annoying nonetheless

I have used the mb version of rtv many times and never had a leak again. That said I clean like I'm crazy.
As for additives I dont know how everything works but I dont put them in my mbs. Fix it the right way. The better you treat your car the better it will treat you.
