New 2008 E63 Owner

Hello everyone. I just purchased a 2008 E63. Looking forward to driving it. Already noted some interesting things and wouldn't mind some feedback.

The car seems to be in great shape. Has about 60k miles. Seems to have the P1 package, not P2.

Does anyone know if these cars have bluetooth and if so, how to pair my phone? Also, do these cars have parking sensors or back up sensors? It doesn't appear to have it. Hard to believe at $90k new in 2008, that wasn't on the car. My 2008 BMW 550 had them. Weird.

Also, I'm already having sunroof issues. Won't close all the way. I heard about resetting the programming but not exactly sure how that works and what to do.

Thanks everyone

Welcome to the AMG Family. In order to have Bluetooth, you’ll need to purchase a Bluetooth puck http://www.mercedesmedic.com/mercede...tooth-adapter/

After install, you need to pair it then your good to go.
As far as the parking sensors go, you can immediately tell if you have them or not. One there will be a button below the shifter next to the suspension settings on the right. Two the sensors are located in the front and rear bumpers. Three you have indicators on the top of the dash in front of the center speaker, and end mounted in the rear just above the rear window in the headliner.

Now if you don’t have any of these, then you don’t have parking sensors. 😩

Sunroof Reset.

i hope that this information helps you out.

Thanks Yuille36. Great info. Kind of odd. The car I bought was the highest end model yet it didn't come with blue tooth already installed. How weird. I see the connector in the armrest/glovebox area.

For the parking sensors, do you have a photo of what the button looks like?

My sunroof is the standard sunroof, not the panaromic. Is the reset process the same?

If you don't have the ugly round things in your bumper covers you don't have Parktronic.

The process for the Sunroof is the same no matter if you have a standard or the panoramic.

These cars didn’t come with Bluetooth as standard, you had to specify that option when ordered or get the puck.

For the center shift console, the button is the lower right, that has a P” Off on it. Please see link.

Thanks for the info.

Do you know if there are any creative or better options for bluetooth interface using the existing factory head unit and wiring? The MB interface is pricey and probably doesn't work that great.

Do you know if the head unit can take a back up camera??

I personally don’t know of any options that can utilize the existing center console interface. I’m sure that a good audio shop could hook you up with a solution.

Yes, the head unit can be adapted to utilize a back up camera, my audio shop told me that they could send my head unit out to be recoded to utilize Apple CarPlay and a backup camera for $500.

Or you could have the entire head unit replaced, I actually like all the buttons personally. I had new Focal speakers installed, 2 Alpine Amps, Audison Digital Sound Processor and JL Audio Sub, with the existing head unit.

Thanks.

I thought I saw a Youtube video showing you how to add the start/stop button to the key insert, even if you don't have keyless go installed. Maybe I was drinking at the time?? LOL. Does this sound familiar? You can buy the button and just insert it into the key slot??

Yes, you can buy a button and insert into the key insert. But it will not give you the keyless function your looking for. Keyless Go is integrated into the vehicle from the onset. This function can not be replicated afterwards. You either have it or you don’t.

What other questions do you have ? That I can answer for you.

I appreciate the help since I'm new to this car.

While I'm trying to decide if I want to spend hundreds on the blue-tooth adapter, do you know if there's another way I can connect my phone? Like a plug in somewhere?

I rarely use my keyless go. It eats the the keyfob battery in no time. Using the key it lasts 10 times longer for me.

Then you must have an issue, if your key fob battery is depleting so rapidly. I haven't changed my key fob battery in 1 1/2 years, and I use it exclusively.
There are several different batteries that can fit into the key fob, I would check to ensure that you have the correct one. As no battery should deplete that fast...... period.

Probably. Before we sold our last house used to keep the key on a self in the garage 4-5 feet away so maybe that had something to do with it. Not sure but everything works. Now i have a detached garage and the battery has lasted years but im in the habit of using the key.

There is in fact a plug-in inside the glove box, but it was intended to be used with a Apple iPod, as an external music source. I use it for that purpose today, as I have over 600 tracks on my classic iPod, for those long road trips.
I believe that Mercedes may still sell, different attachment cables but can't be 100% sure, as our W211 AMG's are anywhere between 11-13 years old. Ooh...I just remembered, I believe that the iPod integration as an optional extra, so you may or may not have this.
Like I said before technology advances so rapidly these days, your local Audio shop maybe of some help in getting the desired outcome your looking for, but it will cost you some $$$

Also if you haven't already started putting maintenance money away, I would start as these W211 age the maintenance on them doesn't get any cheaper. I have a Front passenger keyless go door handle, that has failed. I have replaced everyone except for that one.
And my oil temperature sensor has been fluctuating, so both of those need replacing next week. So constant maintenance is ongoing. Please don't think that sense you purchased a nice AMG, maintenance will be cheap.
Always remember this, these cars were north of $100K when brand new, and there maintenance cost reflect that price. I have put tons of money into my car to get it were it needs to be for my own satisfaction.

If your key is in close proximity to the car, they are communicating, which would reduce your battery life. Separation increases battery life, so I certainly agree with that assessment.

^ to prevent this...press lock on keyfob followed by 2 lock presses. your keyfob will flash and your car will make a new sound signifying that the keyfob has been deactivated from 2 way communication until buttons are pressed to wake the keyfob.

There's also the AUX adapter in the glovebox as well. You can run it or the Ipod setup, can't do both at the same time. When I had my E63 it took me forever to figure out why the AUX wouldn't work. It was because the Ipod cable was plugged into the back of the stereo instead. Did the swap and playing music off my phone through the AUX connector was never an issue.

Do you know if you can use that Aux plug in the glovebox to connect to my phone?? For phone use?

Also, I picked up the Bluetooth adapter PUC on ebay. There's a connector in the glovebox. With that in mind, is the car set up for everything else to connect to my phone? Is there a mic somewhere?

Thanks

Honestly, I don’t know if you can use that Aux plug in the glovebox to connect to your phone. As I’ve never used this option, and always connected thru the Bluetooth puck. If the Bluetooth Adapter PUC is successful in connecting your phone, it should work, the mic is located in the sunroof control console.

just curious why you choose not to buy the MB puck, that connects inside the center console? I can bring up all my contacts in the instrument cluster or the Comand Display.

Thanks. I did buy the puck. I ordered it yesterday on ebay. After I ordered I started wondering if all other components were actually in the car, like the mic. You confirmed, so thanks.

Do you know of a good on-line parts source for the car? I'm looking for some random parts, nothing major. Like little trim pieces that were missing that I would like to replace. I'm missing one in the trunk on the side panel where the hinge goes through. It's a plastic trim piece shaped like a rectangle

There are numerous website such as FCP Euro, RockAuto, Autohausaz, mboemparts, Pelican Parts etc. Too numerous to name the all. But for trim pieces, I would search eBay or the dealership as these online parts are mostly for maintenance or repairs and don’t really sell trim pieces so much, but can search for them online at these sites. Just google Mercedes Benz Parts, and you’ll get tons of sites.

Thanks for the info.

I do have another couple of questions.

I noticed as I toggle through menu options on the display where the speedo is, when i get to the temp, it's flashing. Do you know what it means when the temp is flashing? It doesn't seem to be running hot.

Also, after driving it for a while, I noticed the front two fender, at the top, in front of the wheels are VERY hot. I couldn't see anything like radiators that would make that hot. Does this ring a bell for you?? The car ran fine

Thanks

means your oil isn't up to operating temp yet.

as far as fenders not sure. I'll have to check my car. the fenders are made out of aluminum so they must be transferring heat from something.

Ok thanks. I'll check that flashing temp value next time I drive it.

For the fenders, yup, that's what I figured but I couldn't find anything that would transfer that much heat. I figured exhaust or something with coolant but i didn't see anything. Weird.
