I too am from Australia, i sent stephens an email quite a while ago after seeing a dyno graph he posted on the board. It said Unichip in the corner, and me being a Subaru owner, i know that only a handfull of people can tune a Unichip in Australia, as they have to be distributors of Air Power Systems (APS) Products.
I asked him which of the 3 Unichip dealers in Melbourne was doing his dyno work, he said it was a mistake and that it was powerchip. I soon smelt a rat, as anyone who knows anything about ECU's, knows to stay away from Powerchip.
PS: It was a pretty elaborate scam, he had been setting it up for a while? He had been posting for god knows how long, with dyno figures, 1/4 mile times which coresponded. Unless he was using a 1/4 mile calculator to get figures.
I can't see why he put so much effort into it, to get 6K. Unless he thought he would generate such hype and stuff, that as soon as he said the kits were ready to be shipped, he would get 50 or so orders ie: 300K. That would make it worthwhile, i suspect when only 1 person ordered, it through a spanner in his works.
It just doesn't make sense to me.

All,
Last night I learned a great detail about the eloborate scamming system from a credible source (tipped by E55 Benz0 w/ a connection in Australia). It is quite damaging and I will be pursuing this with local legal authorities.
I cannot go into the details as they are highly confidential and involve additional people and larger stakes but I can suggest that if proper due diligence is conducted authorities should be able to put this scam artist to rest.

Certainly if the victim was to come to Australia I could assist with local knowledge and so on. Help locate a debt recovery agent and make some local court demands with a bailiff - turn around time is about 48 hours and this rodent will be subject to court action.
Once he fails to appear then action is won and the money can be collected with interest over the next 7 years- including the sale of his car to cover detbs.

I never found out how it ended but quite a few had the FBI involved.

Fighting PHISH, Fakes and Fraud
I have been contacted by Paypal and my credit card company for further investigation and was informed that this case could potentially get some follow up *press* to the current article in CIO magazine entitled, "Fighting PHISH, Fakes and Fraud," p. 32-38 Sept 1, 2004. The article is all about Risk Management for Paypal's customerbase.
Some legit coverage could help nail this scammer.
