ESP defective visit workshop

My e55 amg is stuck in what I think is limp mode as when I give it some gas there is nothing there and car seems to be taking off in what feels like 3rd gear have taken it to shop to have scanned try they think it’s the pedal position sensor, had anyone had this problem ?

No one can tell you a thing until you attach a diagnostic system and read out the codes.

Yeah you'll need more than a generic scanner (one that shops that work on 'everything' would have), you need STAR, or at least a Merc specific OBD tool, to pull codes in the ESP module as well as the transmission computer.

Sometimes the ESP Defective message comes on after a battery has been disconnected and could be completely unrelated to the driveability issues. Try moving the steering wheel from lock to lock several times while the car is running and stationary, it could at least clear that message. And if you didn't recently undo the battery but that makes the message go away, I'd definitely have the battery tested as low voltage can cause all sorts of mayhem.

Obviously you need specific codes, but I'd wager pedal/accelerator sensor, shifter assembly, or a conductor plate issues based on your description of the issue.

Good luck!
