CRANK POSITION SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION

So, this started with an intermittent stating issue. Car wouldn't want to start when engine was warmed up, figured it was CPS so I bought a duralast one from autozone. Threw it in, no issues fired right up, reved it up to 3kish for about 50 seconds to recalibrate or whatnot I read on a DIY fourm post. Car would pop under a hard acceleration and shut right off, so i stopped pushing it and drove normally for a week, but last night I was merging onto the thruway and I hit redline, lost throttle, car reved all the way from redline to 1k rpm and just died. I get code crank position sensor malfunction. P0335, No idea what the fuc is goin on anymore with this thing. any help is appreciated fellas <3

AutoZone isn't known for quality parts.

think it's just the cheap sensor not co-operating?

Yes. Check FCP - I think you can pick up a quality one for about $25 plus shipping. I doubt any local auto parts store will stock this item and if so it will be a low quality part. Good luck.

I have a question regarding this procedure, as I've been suspect of my ECU not finishing it's learning (my adaptation screen has always only shown n1 in that one column, and never any values anywhere else in the table grid). I never checked this before I replaced things like the cam and crank sensors etc.

The rpm rev in park is simple enough. My question - is there a trick to the last procedure besides burning my brakes on a far-away, empty road? STAR indicates it wants this test done in 3rd gear, which is about 45 mph at this rpm, and to get anything over 20% load I have stand on the brakes while keeping the speed up. If I didn't I'd be at redline way before 30 seconds is up. I've tried it once and was pretty confident I kept it above 50% load and 2100rpm, and it was about 40 seconds, but nothing changed on my learning chart...

Or is the rev in Park trick enough? The document called it a 'quick procedure', so does it replace the road test one or do both have to be performed?

I now use only the rev in Park trick. Like you, I felt I was burning up brakes. Once the first box was adapted, I just started driving the car as usual. I would check with STAR every week and eventually all indicated adapted.
