The price of maintaining a 14 yr. old W211 E63

About a week ago, my car was making is weird noise, just after I came home from work. I thought maybe it was the air struts that was installed last year, and are warrantied.
Then the air compressor, started and run wide open, then I puff of smoke came shortly after. I know that it had burned out.
The next day, the car started just fine, and the car raised up but not fully, as the air compressor was dead.
I then drove the car slowly to my shop, with the "Stop Car too Low" displayed in the instrument cluster. My intent was to get the car to the shop before the snow hit Northern VA, but the shop had close early.
So I sent them an email, informing them on the drop off. And Eddie, replied back telling me that he will move my E63 in the shop before the snow falls. The next day he called, and told me that getting it on the lift was challenging.
After an inspection, he found a burnt wiring harness and popped air compressor fuse, and a dead air compressor. And he also replaced the air distribution block.
Not only did he inspect the burnt compressor, but also inspected the air leak issue, that I had for years. He attributed it to a leaky air distribution block.
He said the rear air springs should no signs of leaking, but one of the bellows was ripped and showed that to me.
I definitely thought the original rear bags were leaking after 14 years. Well, after two days in the shop, he called and told me that she was ready, no leaks, no codes.
Everything functions as it should. Total cost $790

The ride is amazing now, I'm totally blown away on how good it is now.
I've been missing out for several years.
Will,
Why did they re-calibrate the suspension? I wonder if mine needs to be done?

On the Jan 30th, after I returned home from work, and shut the car off. It started making this noise, that I've never heard before. Then the air compressor started running full speed, and didn't shut off until I seen a puff of smoke. That's when, I knew the air compressor died, requiring a new wiring harness, as a few wire got toasty, also it popped the fuse. The next morning I started the car, and the suspension raised up, but not quite up to full height, so when I put the car in gear it said (Stop, car too low!). So, I drove my X5M instead, but when I returned home, I quickly drove the car to my shop, before anymore air had a chance to escape. I drove the car slow and cautiously about 2.5 miles. My tech tested the rear bags for leaks....nothing. That is when he mentioned that the Air Distribution Block over time will leak air, and that made perfect sense. After installing new wiring, air compressor and distribution block, the system was tested, all codes were cleared and the suspension recalibrated. The recalibration ensures that the leveling sensors front left and right, are equal and the rear height are also equal from side to side. And also the car is level front to rear, with no rake.
Basically, your ensuring that the car is level on all four corners, with the two front leveling sensors and the one in the rear, and that air pressures are equal side to side in the front air struts and the same for the rear air springs (air bags). And I have to say that car rides great, I don't feel the imperfections in the road as much as before. It soaks up the bumps better. He did mention and showed me that my Right Rear Bellows is torn and cracked, this is the outside shroud that protects the actual air bag from dirt and debris. This didn't worry me, as I will be replacing the rear bags in the future, as they are original to the car. Besides everything else with the suspension has been replaced except the rear bags. But, I would definitely recommend, having your suspension recalibrated., so that it sits and rides perfect.
