Tips on compression/leakdown testing
Did a search and couldn't find anything specific.
E55 has been smoking more than usual on startup, WOT, and consuming quite a bit of oil (three quarts in about 2500 miles). Car has been maintained 100% and runs flawlessly since I took ownership. It gets driven hard. Gonna start digging into things to start diagnosing for valve stem seals, broken lands, etc. Any tips/tricks on finding TDC and keeping the engine from rotating while doing a leak down test? I'm going to start with a simple compression test and move from there.
Please don't hijack the thread and say a quart every 1000 miles is normal. My consumption rate is above that and the blue smoke is a little more than just a few puffs at startup.
