Bent Supercharger Clutch Pulley

So, I changed my supercharger bearing today. Everything went smooth until I reinstalled the supercharger clutch pulley. I realized that 2 of the 3 dogbone type springs were slightly bent. This caused the clutch to make a rubbing sound when spinning the clutch. Can the clutch be fixed? What are my options? I think UPD has 88mm and 83mm clutch pulleys that may work without any major mods. German Muscle also has an 80mm pulley that may work too. Kind of afraid of the aftermarket pulleys. Could I go used?

You could get a used stock pulley, But your car will respond nicely to an 83mm with a tune, https://www.vrpspeed.com/product/vrp...e-combo-m113k/

stock size is 89mm

Thank you for the quick reply. I hear stories of the aftermarket pulleys not being able to shimmed properly due to improper tolerances. That causes premature wear on the friction disk of the supercharger. Any advice on this?

That is true and happened to me with that UPD pulley! would have required machining the pulley to fix, upon purchase

Yep same problem here, I even removed the bearings to get to the metal spacer in between them, machined the spacer and reinstalled, still couldn't meet factory shim gap. Needless to say I went to a fixed pulley and have been extremely pleased - nothing to explode! Just as long as your supercharger maintenance is up to speed I've been running mine for a few years with no issues.

I don't think that the higher tolerance on the aftermarket clutched pulleys will cause a ton of wear to the supercharger surface, it mostly leads to a harsher engagement and eventual failure of those springs as they are stretching further than intended, so a lot of people run the scatter shields as insurance.

This is common when pressing the bearing back in, the last one I did I held the pulley in my hand and with the correct size socket hit it with a small sledge hammer. It went back in easily and no bent clutch surface. I bent a perfectly good one on the press, and can’t find any way to repair it.

Thank you for all of the replies! I am definitely on the fence about purchasing an aftermarket aluminum pulley. I have heard of a company overseas that has the option of the pulley to be purchased as a steel version. I know the factory pulley is made from steel so I am thinking of going this route.
