E55 How to prevent battery drain from leaking strut?
One of my rear struts is leaking slowly, and takes about 5 days to bottom out if left off. I've been told that this will eventually kill the battery and/or motor if it sits long. I'm going out of town for two weeks and plan on getting it fixed when I get back, but I want to prevent the battery situation if I can. Someone said to disconnect the f74 fuse for the pump but you need a special tool, another says to disconnect the blue cable leading to it. What should I do?
If the car is locked it will not continue to run the air pump for the air suspension. It will just leak down like you are seeing it do now. You should get this fixed as it can lead to air compressor failure and other damage if the air spring collapses while driving.
If you are concerned about the battery, you can simply disconnect it. It is under the trunk cover and easy to access. You will need to reset the sunroof and windows after reconnecting it (in some cases).
