OIL CONSUMPTION/MANY ERROR CODES 05 E55
So my 2005 E55 AMG I absolutely love. One of the best cars I ever owned, but it's not without its issues.
It seems to have a high oil consumption issue, no lack of power, and no smoke. And it seems to he drinking more. I had a compression test and it was all within spec and 16% of each other. Is there anything else that it can be? It's about 1 Quart every 300-500 Miles.
After driving other E55 this has no lack of power.
I also have the following codes as well.
- P0432 - Due to Cats gone
- PO422- Same as Above
- PO507 - Idle System Control - Higher Expected
- PO505 - Idle Control System
- PO455 Evap System Leak Detected- Large (Often says fuel cap open which its not)
Car has 140k Miles or 226 Kms
It sometimes at Idle is very rough. Then as soon as power is smooth. Like its misfiring when warmed up.
I havent done mods yet, due to the issues however I have done step colder plugs i am now running. I plan to do Longtube Headers and Just upgrade the cooling slightly.

I have an 04 with the same mileage. And I have similar oil consumption (I have gotten it as high as like 1500/qt with treatments of Blue Devil rear main sealer but it tends to fall back down to the 500-600 range after a while). My best assessment is that I mean valve seals and the rear main resealed). There could be other leaks such as oil pan but those are my two guesses. I have seen oil smoke from the exhaust during heavy throttle which I presume is the valve seals. I also clearly have leaks underneath and the rear main/cover is my best guess. I have a VERY occasional P0505 but only in cold weather (like 40F or under). I haven't found the issue yet but there are a number of documented causes that have to do with vacuum leaks essentially around the supercharger.
If you have no leaks from the rear main and no smoke ever from the exhaust your consumption is probably different than mine. There is an oil cooler up front that also leaks. Valve covers...lots of common issues.
