e55 Fuel Tank Warranty - Just made the Deadline question

I dropped off my e55 last week at Fletcher Jones Newport Beach for the extended warranty on the fuel tank that MB has been offering. I received a call later in the afternoon from the dealership and they determined that it's leaking and will be covered under the warranty arrangement. The downside is that they are out of stock and they will probably need to order from Germany. It's not a problem for me to wait, I just want it done correctly. Many owners have complained about leaks coming from the sender units, pumps, and tanks.

Three days later I received a call that they needed authorization from me to add fuel to the tank and it will be ready in the morning. I called the service advisor to ask if the adapter harnesses are on the work order. The polarity is swapped for the new fuel tank systems and I wanted to make sure this was correct before the vehicle was picked up.

The service advisor told me the harnesses aren't necessary since they only replaced the tank. This didn't sound right, so I asked him to confirm. The letter from MB states the tank and related parts (fuel filter/sender, fuel pump, and related gaskets (collectively the "Covered Fuel Tank Components") are to be replaced under the extended warranty.

It seems like they didn't want to wait for Germany so they ordered a "tank only" and transferred the old pumps, old sender unit etc to the new tank. I really didn't expect a dealership like Fletcher Jones Newport to cut corners like this to wrap up the warranty work.

There was another member here that the dealer ordered a tank system from Germany, December 2021, and it was manufactured and delivered in 10 days.

I have explained to them that the extended warranty was to cover the fuel tank and related parts. They are now checking with MB and I will update this post.

I would like to hear from others that went through this extended warranty work on their vehicles to hear what was covered.

Good luck to you Concorde. I don't have any experience with the fuel tank warranty/replacement (mine was handeled by the previous owner of my E55), but I'll be watching this thread regarding Fletcher Jones in Newport. I pick up my E55 parts there all the time (they'll almost match internet prices if you ask). I've really only used them for their parts department. Will be interesting to see how your service deratment experience pans out.

I had mine replaced under warranty. Here is the parts list and work order. Ignore the engine mounts as I had them replaced at the same time.
Hope this helps!

@Concorde Did the dealership tell you that the tank itself is leaking or one of the components (fuel pump)? I have the same issue except my dealer is telling me that I have to pay for this because the fuel pump is leaking but the tank itself is fine, and the warranty just covers the tank if it is leaking.

This doesn't make sense to me, the fuel pump is part of the fuel tank assembly so I would assume that everything that is part of that is covered.

Is this warranty still going on? I have an 06 and on the master inquiry it says that my warranty for the gas tank expired in 2020. This would be great news if its still possible to get all this stuff done for free.
