Hello, after swapping my transmission in my 2005 e55, I had what can be described as a very rare start. Once a day, or every 5-10 tries the car will start. Once started the car runs totally fine, it is very strange and I thought to change the cps, no difference. Then at the fuel pump relay I see things have gotten toasty. Pics included. Where should I look next? My secondary air pump is bad but it was like that before and still starting up
. Where should I look? I swapped the 2 relays at the fuel pump and the same outcome for what it's worth. And I do hear the fuel pump prime when the key turns.
I read the thread, although it seems that I have a code for the crank position sensor. I've replaced it twice and still the same code. Tomorrow I'm going to swap with my dad's working cps on his e55 and that should be a sure way to know. What can cause the code without it being the cps?
Throw a fuel pressure gauge on the Schraeder valve at the passenger side front of the fuel rail and monitor fuel pressure. Sometimes CPS but much more often the fuel system relay and pumps on the W211 E55. I've posted much info on this so search on my user name under the "advanced search" feature upper right.
Tomorrow morning I will go out and get a gauge to throw on there from HF. So when it does eventually start it runs just fine even under WOT, would you still think the fuel pump would be related?

The car runs fine until the contacts overheat, resistance increases, voltage drop occurs, and fuel pumps stop working. Be sure to pull the rear seat, remove the hatch cover on the passenger side, pull the plug, and inspect the contacts. If you have the 2nd-generation fuel pumps (00-00) an adapter cable is installed; the additional contacts in the adapter cable are another failure point (I posted on this recently). The fuel pump contacts when bad usually look like this:
Okay semi update: Car will not start even with some starter fluid sprayed into it, in that case I don't think it to be the fuel pump as it would still at least stumble on cranking. Going to get a friend's higher end scanner to see. But as of right now no start, but very rare start that once starts runs just fine. OBD still gives me crankshaft position sensor after replacing with a known working one. Going to check the fuel pump connections but as I typed it started right up no problem after maybe 6 tries (no starter fluid). And won't start again
Ok so got a fuel pressure gauge, 80psi all day. But car refuses to crank. Pulled a spark plug and cranked with it connected but out the vehicle and no spark I can see. Car gives cps codes still after changing to a known working sensor. Wiring issue? What else should I look for?
