Q: What is POP radar and do all radar detectors detect it?[/B]

A: POP radar technology is aimed at an old police problem - defeating radar detectors. POP is the newest radar police are using to detect your vehicles speed. POP radar consists of a lightning-quick radar burst that can go from OFF to ON, detect your speed, then back OFF again in less than one tenth of a second. POP is so fast it is undetectable by most radar detectors.

 

I called Valentine after I got nailed doing 90 in a 70 without a peep from my V1. They said that the POP fix will not be out until January and I could send mine in for the updates. Not sure what the heck their web site is saying about having it included. That's not what their shop says.

 

The UPGRADE fix will not be available until January.

Meanwhile, The POP feature is included in all NEW units shipping now. See my posts earlier in this thread.

 

Did they say that they would do the upgrade for free? when did you buy yours?

 

You said the POP feature is included in all the new units shipping now. Since when? Also, does the update for January bring up old V1's to the current POP mode coverage or is an all new V1 being released altogether. Thanks

 

With everything including installation for front and rear K40 in my audi it ran me like 650-700. Do not listen to any of these foools quoting 1850 or 2100 for the setup, they have like a 400% markup on the unit. I searched around and got my k40 front/rear sensors + hidden display module for like 475 or 550 from some wholesaler. Then installation was another 150-200. But like I said in earlier posts, the V1 is much better.

I've had my latest V1 since 10/28/04 and it does include the POP feature. Easy way to tell: the word "PoP" repeatedly cycles in the display when the unit is turned on. See my post # 34 in this thread.

Thought you bought yours after mine (your post #40 above). You should have the same features.

The January release sounds like it's just the POP upgrade for older units, but you'd have to check with Valentine on that.

 

I have both a K40 and a Passport SRX. The Passport is superior! Way too many false signals from the K40.

Both have saved me numerous times and I must say that other radar detectors don't compare to the Escort brand.

 

I bought the Passport 8500 last week and it's working great. I took it on my trip to SF and had hardly any false alarms. There was one time when the POP alarmed but you must activate the POP radar, otherwise it comes deactivated by default. Don't know why?

I've heard others talk about the many false alarms with the K-40. When I visited a shop last month, the dealer showed me his setup in his own car and said his older K-40 unit falsed all the time but that the newer ones don't. Can anyone confirm this?

I just hate the damn Passport hanging off my windshield. I'd rather put up with more false alarms by the K-40.

Forgive if I am doubling....lotta posts here.

Called Escort today...for us non-X50 Passport 8500 guys.....Escort will have an update for our units in Spring of 05. Tech guys said it is a pretty major mod to make the 8500's pick up POP...circuit board mods etc....

I have the 2 year free upgrade plan...so the upgrage will be free, yet my 03 E55 arrives Monday (got screamin year end deal).....hopefully the local fuzz are old school....we'll see.

 

V1 vs 8500?
I am using both ones and my favorite installed on my S500 is 8500 x50
Performance-wise, New 8500 X50 outperforms V1 in almost every aspect.
(You’d say) directional arrows? They are cool, no doubt...
The only dumb problem is that once you getting tracked - you must slow down - no matter where the cop is.
So...?
