Anyone have any experience working on C218 amg engine?

I figure I would ask the w211 forums in regards to my 2012 c218 cls63. Needs a block cyl. 1 scored bore and loss compression. Had a stage 3 tune with headers and other minor things.

Question is I've found a replacement block. Can I just swap out with new bearings and g2g? Or do I need to line hone the main bore even though it's a stock crank stock bearings and stock caps? Thanks.

Aside from the questions on bearings, the cylinders will have the same likelihood of scoring as your current block. In fact higher likelihood than your current block, because the donor block is used.

Sorry yeah to be a little more clear, My current block is gouged in 1 or 2 spots. I was not going to use that cylinders piston and rod due to high likelihood it has a bend. I will refresh new rings and gaskets of course. Just trying to see if anyone knows if Its possible to swap in a good (used) block without line honing. Thanks.

Are you using the main caps that came with the new block or the main caps that are on the scored engine? If the new used block didn’t come with main caps, then yes I would suggest a line hone, as the caps and block are usually a matched set.

The used block comes with the original main caps with main bearings intact and good condition. No hot spots or scoring on any of the bearings. I will check cylinder wall for roundness and size prior to reassembly of course. I have had conflicting answers including from engine builders. My experience as a technician going on 12 years is saying if it's perfectly good stock crank, original main caps and bearings original to the donor block, and new cyl 1 piston and rod with new rings and hardware I don't see why it wouldn't work. But then again I'm still new to the m157 tolerances compared to a m113k.

I would have no problem putting the old crank into the new block, I have done this many times without issue.
although I would be inclined to use the bearings from the old engine or chech that they are the same
