Transmission issue?
I have a 2006 AMG with 75000 miles on it and at time I feel like the transmission is kind of the bleh part of this car. in Sport or comfort it doesn't seem to have the response I would expect. On a few occasions, most recently just now at cruising speed 30-35mph I gave it a fast stab of the accelerator pedal and the car revved, didn't really accelerate and then seemed to BANG into gear, was very weird. Was not a transmission slip otherwise it would have redlined, more like an extreme lag then downshift and noticable bang.
. It's not the transmission or motor mounts those were just done. What are some common things to look at on the drive line or actual transmission. The car has no codes at all, none..

Is that the same tool used for the oil level? Or do I got to buy another special Mercedes tool to check my fluids well?

The clutched sc pulley takes some getting used to. There is a slight amount of “lag” to it. I have a fixed pulley that gives almost instant boost. Boost comes on MUCH sooner than a clutched pulley. I’ll never do clutched again

what amg do you have, 55 or 63? If it’s a 55, that’s just kinda how they shift… The lag and “bang” you describe sound like supercharger engagement. At 30-35 your rpm’s won’t be high enough to get boost on initial pedal push! You won’t make boost until 2200-2500 rpm and up. At around that rpm the supercharger kicks in and may feel like the “bang” of a downshift.

Well one thing I did notice is that my locking transmission filler cap is completely missing from the car. I guess I bought it this way and never really looked. So I'm assuming over the years of that missing there has to be some moisture and dirt in the fluid so I just ordered a fluid change kit and I'm going to do that this week. I'm pretty sure it's running on the original fluid for 75,000, miles. For not I added under a half of quart just to be safe till my dipstick arrives. I'm sure the fluid is dirty, burnt and low...lol

Things to consider:
-Fluid refresh
-Filter change
-Conductor plate change
-Transmission solenoid O-rings
-Adaptation reset
Adaptation reset is easy to try as a first step

What I did observe is that if I go into manual mode in 2nd or 3rd and stab the throttle, no bang or anything, the car just accelerats. In S or C mode of you stab the throttle fast it bangs pretty harsh. Like the transmission is very sluggish and then grabs and the acceleration feels kinda crappy. Of I got WOT it shifts fine then if I let off before redline it seems to hang up in that particular gear till I slow way down...
Is it just that they have crappy feeling transmissions??

I had an issue similar to what you're describing in my 2004 E55. I, meaning the mechanic, replaced the valve body and some other associated component. $2K later, problem solved.

Read that thread he linked above. I'm pretty sure some of the solenoids can be problematic and easily swapped out.

I will also probably do that the next time I will service my transmission. Also have some jerkiness here and there, but I know from last time the O-rings could be in better shape and then it might be even better to renew the solenoids as they are 17 years old

So just to update, I got my dipstick tool and was about a quart low. I added a quart and the transmission seems to be shifting much better. I do get that harsh engagement of the Supercharger in 1st gear under certain throttle percentages. If I drive the car normal it feels fine, if I beat the **** out of it it also feels fine. It's when I drove the car anywhere in-between old man going to bingo and meth head police chase, is where it feels kinda wonky. also probably gonna need to do either rear differential mounts or flex discs soon. I feel a little bit of a bang from the rear/underneath when I stab the throttle to a downshift. 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️

My car has the occasional rough engagement of the SC in first gear at "just the right throttle". It does take a little getting used to.
