where can you get a mirror like CTE's? the one pictured earlier in this thread can be bought at www.beastpower.com in the V1 section. but that is a BMW mirror. where can you get the MB mirror?

Guys, remember my mirror is the STOCK mirror. It is not aftermarket. Look at the pic T-bone posted and you'll see. Unfortunately I have never seen the actual radar detector in it's location. I will call the place who did it and see if they have any pics.

I'm confused...In order for a V1 to work effectively let alone work altogether, it must be mounted in a way such that the sensors have a clear view out of the front and rear windshields. If you cannot see your V1 in your car, that must mean that your V1 cannot see out of the car. You say it's mounted on the rear decklid, right?

I know you got my PM, so I'll describe (as best I can) for others that are intersted. Some of you have asked for pics of my actual V1. I called the shop yesterday and asked if they had taken any. I guess this is a little cottage industry and having a "better mouse trap" means a lot. They do not want pics out there as they said this differentiates them from other shops. I guess these high-end shops are always looking for the slickest solution. Anyway, he did tell me the job involves completely removing the rear seat (I did not know this) as well as some other stuff. The front sensor of the V1 is mounted in my mirror. The rear sensor is also separated from the main brain and mounted somewhere in the inside back of the car. The main unit is then housed as well. Like I said, I have had NO instances where I noticed a significant loss of sensitivity. In fact, it's saved my *** several times with both radar and laser. After speaking to him yesterday I am more convinced than ever that you need to be VERY careful in choosing a shop to do this kind of install.

so the shop effectively turned the V1 into a K40, or at least backwards engineered it into the same architecture. i wish V1 would just do this naturally, because ripping apart a V1 possibly could be a very expensive DIY project.

4)You can setup your IPOD very cleanly in your car through Mercedes AUX or Auxillary switch, which is also relatively cheap.
I wish I read this earlier!

2) Laser key technology? Have you been watching too much "Gone In 60 Seconds (Sucky Remake Version)"? Next thing we'll be reading on the forums is how we need to have keys made in Germany at Mercedes' home office!

3) I've never had a Mercedes come with wheel locks. No locks, therefore no key to remove them. If you get locks, that means they are purchased at the dealership. And I am not sure where the ghetto part of Danville is that he needs to be concerned with getting wheels stolen!

4) Does the 2005 have an aux input? Gareth, does yours? I thought this was scheduled for deletion... it certainly was removed from many other models.

I think you need to drive pretty far (ZA maybe) before you need wheel locks... and if you actually DO need wheel locks, they're not going to help you.

i had the rims stolen off my car right in my driveway like 5 years ago. mb's dont come with locks or lugnut keys, but you can buy them from the parts dept at the dealer or you can get aftermarket ones

I've read good things about the K40 Bluetooth Claibre, which sells for either $900 (front only) or $1600 (front and rear) installed, including the laser defuser. I have an older K40 installed (front only) and it seems to work pretty well. I am not sure that the back makes sense? If they are going to catch up on you from the rear, they can clock you by going the same speed, I therefore think $900 is a good compromise. How much is Valentine installed without the fancy etched mirror?
