Navigation DVD update
Does anybody have instructions on how to update the navigation on an 06E55. I’ve already bought the software update and also the 2016 map update. I can’t get either one of them to work. They both keep saying no DVD found. The 2008 one was working fine.

With a 06 w211 that system uses NTG1 and if you have the right NTG1 dvd maps and I think the lastest map update is ver 15 you would just but the disc in the NAVI dvd drive in the trunk. If you have the right DVD and it is not working you might need to update the firmware in the head unit or use a older map DVD with the older firmware update in that dvd and then you can update to the new maps dvd, but you need to make sure that the map DVD you have is meant for a NTG1 system.

Unfortunately, map updates for the W211 platform are no longer supported by Mercedes. Most people have either rely on their cell phone or just replaced the entire head unit, with a new unit that has apple car play, etc.

I think 2016 was the last year for the maps on the W211. There's an image floating around out there, should probably try and burn a new image, the DVD could also be bad or it's the wrong version for the W211. But yeah, it's pretty pointless these days. Takes forever to enter an address and doesn't do traffic or speed traps which google maps even does now.

Honestly, I seen a few but don't recall the make. I still have the original unit in my car.

There are so many of them it's hard to stick to a particular one. People have installed various units but those change all the time as android gets updated all the time and there's new versions all the time. Mine is still original though.
Did you try burning a new DVD? Are you sure the version you have is correct for the W211? You're going to be disappointed when you get it working. It's basically worthless these days, navigation isn't as good as google maps and it's hard to easily input an address. Once you get a bluetooth adapter for audio, there's really no point updating the system.
