That must have been some kind of speed record- Just got back from picking up the re-booted axle. Not sure I want to know what brand boot is on it, but they cleaned it all up, regreased and new boot in about 3 hours. $120. I will put new inner shaft seals on.
Everything is back in the car, back on the ground on the wheels. One more question- rear axle collar nut (12 point, 32 mm) torque? WIS says either 350 Nm for self-locking, or 170 Nm then 45 degrees for non-self locking.
I assume this replacement is the non-self locking nut: Question - how best to stake the nut at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock? Chisel?
Postscript- Everything back together- New rear shocks, rear airbags, rear axles, lower control arms. Still need an alignment but ride quality is markedly better. Was sorely tempted to order a WaveTrac LSD but there's a 2 month wait right now, couldn't wait that long. Maybe later. Very happy with the result, but that was a lot of work.
