Question about 03 VS. 06 steering wheel

Hey folks,

I have an 06 with a steering wheel that isn't up to my standards cosmetically.

I have a replacement steering wheel from an from an 03. It looks to have a different "Y" harness with a 2 pin connector versus a 3 pin connector that my 06 should have. (I didn't pull my wheel yet)

Can I just swap out the Y harness to the 3 pin? If not, could I pop out the buttons from my 06 wheel to use them in the 03?

Sorry about the questions... just wanted to make sure I can make it work without splicing, and retain the ability to use the buttons. Thanks

depending on which style wheel you have. but chances are your 06 has has the facelift wheel so different airbag all together.

They are the same airbag. It is not the facelift wheel for either. I am asking about the potential to just swap in the 3pin harness and still have full functionality with the 03 wheel.

just swap all your electronics over from the original wheel. there is a difference in the wiring. the y harness youre talking about is for the paddles. the 06 paddles are pinned out 1 and 3 left side, 1 and 2 right side
03 is pinned 1 and 2 both sides. if you were to use whats there your paddles wont work or the car will only down shift

correct but the wires should be able to be re-pinned to have the right connection. Like the reverse of my wheel in my 05 being swapped to a facelift wheel. Buddy only had to move the pins around to make it work.

if im not mistaken hes going to have to swap the entire plug unless the 06 also has the 2 pin plug.

My 06 is 3 pin. Can I just swap all wiring, along with the buttons themselves , to avoid splicing or re-pinning ?

as long as your button housing is identical yes.
w211/r230/w219 wheels came with 2 different style button paddles. one with a small housing one with a large.
