What cars would you consider replacing the E55 with?
My car was involved in a crash yesterday, other party was at fault, people were unhurt. It might be a write off, will find out next week. It will be sad and I just replaced a bunch of parts, tires and have parts still in the garage.
I love my E55 but my main gripes were lack of traction and the transmission having a mind of its own. Just wondering what cars people would consider as replacements? It is my baby hauling car so ideally need 4 doors. I was considering a very low mileage A45S or might just be able to spring for a lowish mile 2017 E63S I believe that was the introduction of 4 matic.....

I’m glad that no one was hurt. It’s sad to see a car you love go.
Since you’re in New Zealand, you’ll will have access to Japan imports. I’d suggest a CLS 63 Shooting Brake. 4matic started with this AMG on the performance package and with the 2014 E63 facelift. With or without 4matic, it’s a lovely looking things and is my choice of car if I’m upgrading from my E55.

Thanks, not the best day.
Apparently I broke my foot I found out yesterday. Wife made me go to the doctor. I love the E63 both generations but I can't afford any downtime to deal with headbolts cams and lifters. I could consider one of the newer C63's after 2011 which should have updated bolts at least. I just find the interior difficult after being in an E class, I have only seen the earlier ones but they are definitely C180 quality.

No idea how I broke my left foot. Maybe crushed under the brake pedal. Will heal fine. No pain.

As long as the upper aprin is ok you can fix it. Clearly there will be the little stuff that will add up but.......
Fender, hood ,light assembly and nose. Can't see anything else but for what I have into mine and time I would try and fix it.

I am worried the little things will add up a lot. It shredded the wiring harness, the SBC pump has been pushed back a bit, the black metal support around the front of the engine bay has been warped on that side, wheel will need some work and painting, obviously ruined tire, the right fender has pushed into the door taking the paint off the door edge, those lower grills are surprisingly expensive. Main concern is the left unaffected fender is now misaligned with the left A-pillar and door somehow. Also ruined the oil cooler, lost most of the oil onto the road and coolant I think from the IC loop. Heres hoping the frame isn't bent.

That sucks man .....good luck.
I can say again with all the work that I put into mine,If I could buy it back cheap and fix it,I would. Remember fenders and hood are pretty cheap and the nose you can buy aftermarket if you wanted.

So far hood and fender are at about 1k plus a new nose....maybe a E63 if you wanted around $500.00. Clearly you will need more but just giving you some numbers.

Sorry to hear about the car - it's unfortunate, but sometimes bad things lead to new and better things. Maybe a V2 CTSV. Basically, an E55 but with even more grunt down low - and it's a newer car. Test drive one to see if you like it. You can get manual if you're interested and the wagons are great!

Sucks to hear, at least you're all okay!
Parts so much harder to come by here in NZ..IF there's damage in the engine bay I can definitely see this ending up a write off, can't imagine what parts companies flog the insurance companies here on these euros..My CLS55 just sits in the garage now days, needs a bit of TLC though. What parts did you have to put in yours?

Good to hear from you. Do you mean previous repairs/mods or fixing this mess? Panel beater is still hunting around for parts to get an idea for the insurance adjuster whether it will be a write off or not. It caused quite a lot of damage, I am guessing there will be 10k in used parts alone. Wreckers appear to charge heaps for them. It bent the right front suspension and bent the front frame. Apparently they can fix it to be perfect again as long as it is financially viable.
What TLC does yours need?

Popping and play in front suspension. I think it's the front airmatics are buggered those arnott remanufactured dont seem so good. They leaking from being in garage too long and shocks surely suffer from it. Front driver seat *** leather is torn.

Small update, unfortunately it has been written off by insurance. Saved the MKUltra TCU from it. Otherwise in dispute over the payout currently, waiting on some valuations.
In the meantime half heartedly looking out for a W211 or 212 M156 E63 but there are none with low miles currently for sale. Also thinking about a W204 C63. I am sure I can swap some cams, lifters, rebuild cam adjusters, intake manifold and headbolts etc.

I got a totaled car once (20+ years ago) because of value of repairs but title was still clean, insurance gave me full amount ($5400) and bought it back for $500. Repair the basics for $3K and drove it another 3 years.
Another MBWorld member had a minor accident in the UK (S212 https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...ml#post8408717,) with the same approach. Bought it back from the insurance after they totaled it. He repaired it and still driving it.

I could potentially. I did this with my last car (toyota mr2) but that car had $$ in oem parts you can't get any more and aftermarket bits, I transplanted it all into a straight chassis. Here you have to deregister the car as a written off wreck so you can't legally drive it again. Unfortunately other than the headers there isn't too much worth taking and putting into another great condition E55. I will still ask for a buy back value anyway. I have one of two valuations back and so far well above what insurance was offering.
