Since im replacing my alternator, I was trying to investigate why our cars run solid pulleys in lieu of OAD (decoupled/dampener) pulleys. I have found zero threads / posts / videos across multiple platforms (forums, YouTube, FB groups, etc) and I’m a little surprised that it was never brought up.
unless I missed it completely, I’d like to know more about why we run solid pullies instead of the clutched versions for our alternators. In my mind, it introduces another wear component but saves on the tensioner and serpentine belt life.
thoughts? Cause of the replacement, melted rectifier on the rear under the cover. Smelled like melting plastic, caused by excessive heat from likely end of life bearings. What’s going on
