Tick from under hood - MOTORMOUNTS?
took the E55 in over a week ago for the brake system recall and am also getting new tires (dealers expence) because they vibrate and get noisy at low speeds. I also noticed that I was hearing a ticking sound from under the hood (sounds like a bad lifter) and that the engine was shaking a bit. The service tech called yesterday to say they are replacing the motor mounts. Has this happened to anyone else? Any annoying ticks out there?

The 3 valve MB engines have noisy valvetrains, hopefully the new 4 valve DOHC engines will be much quieter. The motor mounts were a common problem on the NA non AMG engines. How many miles were on the tires?

Motor Mounts
Ummm ... could I hear more about the motor mounts? (02 W210)
My engine at idle causes the car to *shake* a bit ... maybe just a bit more than the windshield wiper at high speed at a standstill.
TIA

Yes - Greg @ Keyes in Van Nuys really took good care of me. I got 4 new Conti's (a new softer compound) and they got rid of the engine tick I was having - turned out it wasn't the motor mounts but they replaced a tensioner, idle pully and 2 belts and that did the trick. Good to know it was not the engine!! They also performed the SBC brake recall service. And, when they replace the tires they noticed two of the TPM sensors were bad and replaced them as well. Feels like a new car again!!
Just in time too - my wife and daughter were starting to like the ML350 they loaned us!!
Also took the SLK350 for a test drive - that sucker is quick, nimble and really comfortable. I was suprised by the 6cyl/7G tranny combination - lots of power and torque on hand. IMHO
