so I attempted the washer fix, it didn't help
looks like the existing rubber bushings were hard but the correct thickness. when I do look I see the motors are spinning with adjustment button pressed.

my question is, is the metal gear on both motors snapped in half like seen on YouTube or are the motors busted internally. should I simply replace the steel gears on both or both motors?
