System shutdown
Today I drove my E55 on the freeway for 2 hours to a location where I stayed 1 hour and then began my return trip. After 1 hour on the freeway average speed about 80 I had a total shutdown of my nav system, radio and other functions related to this system. It simply stopped playing the CD and went to dark. No nav.......nothing. When I eventually reached into the compartment between the front seats it was so hot that a metal card holder located within was almost too hot to touch. I have no idea if that heat was related.
However, I soon stopped at a gas station on the freeway to let things "cool down" and got something to drink. When I returned, everything worked as usual. Nav, radio, everything. I have no idea what the heck happened but it sure concerns me. Any help out there???

my friend's 2004 E55 had a similar experience. His car shut down on the freeway. The whole interior blinked twice and shut down. quite scaryI should say. Also while I was driving I saw E55 showing key not recognized on the screen. MB needs QT control.

shut down
on a long trip the nav just went dark, got restarted, then dark again, and after shutting it down for a half hour it restarted and was fine. it hasn't done that again in the last 1k miles. just strange electronics. never brought it in.
