E55 Radiator Fan running slow
everything seemed ok after that however on a hot day when driving up hill In traffic I noticed the engine temperature climbed all the way to 223 F. when I got home I pulled into the garage opened the hood and saw hat the cooling fan was spinning but slowly.
I don't have a star diagnostic just an Autel tablet.
I also have a 2010 E63 and on that vehicle if the engine is hot the fan kicks in an sounds like a jet.
How can I test the signal going into the fan and can I jump the temperature sensor to see if the fan kicks on high?
there is a way to test the fan speed in the w220 ( which i have so i know 100% it works) and it should work on some of the w211 if i am not mistaken ,
on your AC unit Hold the (OFF) and (REST)buttons together for a few seconds , you should get in to the diagnostic menu .
in this menu you can check many things like the evaporator temp, coolant temp and so on ... however the is one option ( which is No 20 if i am not mistaken ) that controls the engine fan
in w220 it is option NO12 and on that option it shows 10% on the screen ( which is the percentage of the fan speed) then you use the fan speed temp controls in the ac unit to increase this percentage ) so i assume the same in the w211
i have no w211 to test it out but you can ... do that while the car is running so you dont drain your battery however you can do it with only ignition if you want..
option 2
Autel diagnose tool has the same menus from the MB star except for the developer data and testing the fan is not located in developer data ... it is under control unites \ me2.8( engine control module)\ actuations\ then something with fan control , you will know it when you read it.... try there and see.
