S211 rear air suspension leak fix
I came back after a trip last year to find the car like this.
I didn’t have access to my garage until the other day so i was told the tanks on the rear bags could corrode. I sprayed both tank connections with hot water and dish soap. They started to bubble like mad so i decided to investigate more.
The tank connections were beyond just cleaning up and reinstalling the hoses, they were badly bowed at the connections. This is after cleaning up the corrosion with a wire brush.
I used some chemical metal to restore the surfaces to a point where a hose clamp could seal the hose on the barbs again. This worth stuff is super expensive but for the application I think it’s worth getting the good stuff.
I cleaned all the barns back with some 360 grit but whatever you have will do fine. I used the edge of a file to restore the edges on the barbs and reinstalled using two hose clamps on each connection.
The car has been sitting for nearly a week now and it has not dropped at the rear.
I hope this can help someone who has leaky rear suspension on their w211. It’s a nice cost saving and preserves the original Mercedes air bags rather than replacing with arnott or some coilovers or whatever especially when the rear bags are still in working order.

I can recommended buying some earclamps, they have more uniform way of clamping instead of a regular jubilee/hose clamp
Next time I’ve got it on the ramp in going to try a little bit of sealant on the hose and try to tidy up those connections. If that doesn’t work then time for some new barbs to be welded on the tanks.
