Well, I just got off the phone with my service advisor and discussed my problem. He said he just replaced the rearview mirror on an E500 because of the same problem, so I feel much better. Now, I just have to wait until it comes in and this problem will be over.

Thanks, it's great to have such knowledgable members here to give me advice on cars they will never own.

Edit: Yeah, I'm sure you own those cars buddy. I have an Enzo in the garage too, all I have to do is find a pic of one and post it on the fourms and everyone will believe me.

got one for you guys re: garage door.

1) i cleared the memory slots as per the instructions.
2) i programmed memory slot 2 with my girlfriend's clicker, and the light blinked quickly and learnt the code.
3) when i came home and tried to teach it my garage's code, no love. the light blinks slowly forever and never learns.

what i've noticed is that the garage door opener for my house seems to send a signal for about a second and then stops transmitting. is this common? has anyone run into this type of problem? any suggestions?

i've tried teaching the remote inside and outside of the garage. and the rear view mirror does work with regards to learning as it learnt another remote. i even re-initialized and tried teaching it in different slots. worked again with one garage door opener at my girlfriend's place. but not at mine.

comments, suggestions....

thx.
Gareth

My exp with HomeLink compatible garage door openers is that you don't use the remote to train the HomeLink but the opener itself. Like on mine, there's a button under the light cover that I have to push, that puts it in "learn mode" and then I have to go initialize the HomeLink system as described in the manual.

Hope that helps

Actually, some garage doors are still old-school analog so all you have to do is hold the remote close to the unit in the car to program the remote. Most garage door openers now require people to do as above, but some are still analog units if they're older units.

I have an Enzo and a Zonda but I don't feel like posting pictures!

It's easy to sit and find pics on the M3 Forums to use as your own, it doesn't mean crap to me. I still call bullcrap!
Hmmm, let me get this straight- you question whether I have a 55 so to humor you, I post a pic from the M3 forum that I use in my signature. You then suggest that I combed the M3 forum to find a picture of an E55? Does it make any sense at all that I would go to the M3 forum to find a MB picture? Not likely.

PS Got my garage opener working, how's yours Skippy?

Gareth,
If you could post the brand and model of your opener, someone may be able to help. I have a Genie that has the rolling codes. It was difficult to get it to program, but I finally got it by using the button on the opener. My understanding is that trying to use the remote won't work.

Hope this helps.

Absolutely correct. You can't use the remote if it's rolling code. I have the Genie as well and had the same problem. Even better is that it never did the rapid flashing thing that says it bought the code. It did work however after using the learn button on the opener itself. Keep trying, I was convinced mine was broken as well.

Sent the car in yesterday to replace the rearview mirror and got it back. Works perfectly now! My MB dealership got the part in one day and took time off the schedule to complete this, thanks Tri-Star Imports (Ellisville, IL)!

alright, i'm a moron because i can't get this to work to save my life.

since i can't get the remote to program the RVM, i skip to step 6 which is press the learning button on the Genie, and then press button 1, 2 or 3 on the RVM. The Genie does not recognize any signal from the RVM at all. Which would make sense since nothing is programmed there. How do I get the RVM to send a signal to the Genie? Or am I just doing something wrong.

Please advise here guys.

and
http://www.homelink.com/program/rolling.html if necessary

Hint: When programming the remote to the homelink button of choice, turn off power to the garage door opener so the door doesn't go crazy. If you're continuing with a rolling code setup, obviously restore power to the Genie before proceeding.

Hope that helps - I know it can be frustrating, but usually it's because you skipped a step.

Mine works just fine, and its a Genie, too.

Maybe it has something to do with the '03 E55s? They are missing MANY features, maybe that is one?!?!?! (that's for you D)

I just programmed mines...had a bit of trouble at first....then read on a site that I had to erase the entire memory before doing anything....then program the selected button(s)....for me it was the left button for the garage door.
