To restore or not to restore. That is the question.
This is where the nightmare kicks into over drive. I went up the street to a slick looking facility. They’ve got shops in multiple cities so I figured they’d be a more dependable and knowledgeable. Well, that wasn’t the case.
I decided to go all in and duplicate “legit street cars” e55 build that I’d seen on YouTube. This was a high mileage car but it was cosmetically terrific and mechanically sound. I drop shipped the VRP kit that included bigger throttle body, supercharger pulley, enhanced cooling, and more. I opted to replaced all engine mounts and the transmission mount with e55 Black parts. And I sprung for a long tube headers and complementary exhaust. It was going to be awesome!
Nope! These guys had my car for One Year! I finally said I was coming to get the car and to have it ready on X date. When my wife dropped me off to finally get the car there were two guys in the parking lot still working on the tune. My wife left and I waited around for an hour then they gave me the keys. But, I’d have to come back to get another flash on the tune in a few days. Whatever. I drove off and the car drove terrible. No power. I got to my destination and called the shop. No answer. I tried several times throughout the day. Same result. No answer. The guy I’d been working with stopped texting me back. So I go to the shop when I’m back in town and they just tell me they’re done.
I couldn’t get inspection passed because they’d removed the cats. The O2 sensors where zip tied to the car and everything was a mess. This is getting long so I’ll stop here. The manager of the store basically said they were done working on the car and that was that.
This was a year ago. The car has been in my driveway in Charlotte for that year and is looking sad. My kids want me to get her running cause they love that thing. I do to. Basically, I need two things from this forum. One: am I crazy to continue pouring money into a 160k mile car Two: who could possibly help me get the car going again. I’m willing to go a couple hundred miles in any direction to find the right shop.
Thanks for reading.
