is the w210 e55 engine the same as the w140 engine (4valves per cyl) but bored to 5.5 giving u 349hp
and the w211 e55 engine the present s500 engine, bored up to 5.5 and supercharged?
was there ever a car with the present engine without supercharger?

2002 E55K RENNtech HP
The W210 E55 engine is 3 valve engine n/a yielding 349 to 354 HP between '99 and '02. The W211 E55 is also 3 valve but supercharged and yielding "469 HP ??". The supercharged engines also have a heavier block casting to reinforce the lower end. I don't know if the newer n/a engines in the C55, CLK55, and SLK55 are now using the same block casting.

'06 E55, '05 SLK55, a few others
As far as I know, the new engines are all the same with the exception of supercharging. All are of the 3 valve type with the 5 liter having a smaller bore and stroke. So the answer is yes and no. Yes, the W211 has the same 3 valve 5.5 liter as in the W210 E55, but no because it's been beefed for the factory SC.

Mercedes-Benz A170 CDI
I have always wondered about this (C55/CLK55/SLK55 engines) as well. We know the new 55K is essentially a new block which is much more durable and stronger than the previous 5.5 V8. The previous V8 revved to around 6000rpm, the V8K revs to 6500rpm, this leaves the N/A 5.5 V8 block, is it just essentially just the strengthened 55K block but without intercoolers and a supercharger? I know its pretty much all new since its aluminium and debuted with the CLK55 launch, it produces 367hp and revs to an incredible 6700rpms (incredible for a V8 of this configuration). So is that theory correct?
