What is the best performance tire for the 55?

I am getting new tires and Rims and have had several recomendations. I am looking for a high performance tire for my 55. Your choice? Have you had them on your 55?

Z rated Michelins are the best IMO

For my money it is the Michelin PS2s. I have them and they function well under all conditions.

Michelin Pilot Sports 2

They ride very quiet and have awesome grip in wet & dry.

My Michelin PS2's have been by far the BEST tire I have ever driven.

At some point you'll end up replacing the contis.. if you are like me, once you do you will be upset that you didn't do it sooner... so I'd suggest doing it now.

I'm not one to **** money away, but I would have replaced them day 1 if I knew then what I know now..

2005 E55
Front BF Goodrich G-Force T/A KD's 245/40/18
Rear BF Goodrich G-Force T/A KD's 265/35/18 or BF Goodrich G-Force T/A Drag Radials 275/35/18

These are the best tire for grip and street. I never have and never will drive E55 in the rain so I am not concerned with wet grip. The KD's in 265/35/18 will give more grip then a PS'2 at 275/35/18 and the drag tire are the best best best. I will not drive my E55 with out them. I am on 2nd E55 and 4th set of tire. I can get deals on the Drag Radials if anyone needs them. Latest price is $180 plus $10 per tire to install.

I have had the PS2's and they are great tires but the best is the BFG's.

I really didnt like the ride of the BFG's or the Eagle's. For me its the PS2's all the way, smooth, quiet, very sticky tire (grips well, in both dry and wet), looks good, and performs like a dream. It also changes the way the car feels and drives, steering response is nice and sharp as aresult of these PS2's, surely worth every single penny.

I ditched my Conti's after 8,000 miles and 2 flats, one a blow out at high speed. Glad it was a rear. Put on PS2. It is a different car!! Knowing what I know now, if I bought a new E55 today I would throw out the Conti's on the first day and put on PS2's. It's simple, it's an $85,000 car with crap for tires. Call tire rack, spend an extra grand and make the car handle like it should have in the first place.

I've got PS2's which are great tires. I run them on my M3 as well. I'm getting BF drag radials this week for the strip only.

Tirerack recommends:

Front: 245/40 YR18
Rear: 265/35 YR18

Do you guys agree/disagree? I'm about to drop 1k in sub/sound upgrades. Figure its probably best to do the tires now rather than later. Is there any place we can sell our Continentals? Donate them to Salvation Army for a tax credit??

Dont sell the Continentals. SMOKE THEM like the rest of us who dumped them. Just don't do that to the PS2's. I don't even think that the salvation army would take these.

I have the A/S on for the rainy season even though Mercedes and Michelin don't approve this tire for any Mercedes, supopsedly there are some tracking issues. I have no problems with them on my TL or E55 or E320 so far. Really some great tires.

The Goodyear F1 GSD3's were not good tires on my E55. Low speed noise was unacceptable and tire wear was not proportional to grip. I would not purchase them again. They had better traction than the Continentals but then again, IMHO, any tire has more traction than the Continentals.
