Noticed smoke coming from around both of these spots not sure what it could be but it’s bothering me. A lot. Any ideas? 2004 E55

I did but didn’t get a chance to dig deep and see where it’s coming from yet

Hard to diagnose on the internet, but I had smoke on the left side and the valve cover gasket was leaking oil* onto the headers.

Smoke in the engine bay of a M112/113/K car is commonly caused by the valve covers leaking (either the gaskets or the RTV in the sealed upper sections) but there is no way to confirm that with the limited info you've provided.

Does it smell like burning oil? Any issues in how the car runs / drives? Any warning lights?

On a cold engine, remove the front cover and the air boxes, and start examining the valve covers / surrounding area with a powerful flashlight.

You're looking for leaks as a starting point.

smells like oil yes, I have a valve cover gasket coming so once that arrives I’ll check it out. The car is currently parked with no seats until the new seat covers arrive and get installed

Many people have issues with leaking valve covers. First issue is to only, ONLY, use MB valve cover gaskets. Second buy new screws for the upper cover. Follow tightening torque specs exactly. And, here are a couple of videos that Tasos has done specifically on some of the issues of the M113 valve covers and the casue of leaks.

I hope this is helpful and good luck.

Like others have said, 99% chance it's a leaking valve cover gasket. Every single one of these engines will have that leak eventually.

And your engine bay looks meticulous so I'm sure the car has been well cared for. Do not be concerned. Just have the valve cover gaskets replaced.

FCP sells a lot of OEM MB parts so what you ordered may be the same as you get from the dealer.
