2004 E55 AMG (M113K W211)
Thumbs up REPAIR ADVICE AND ASSISTANCE

Hello Forum Members,

I hope everyone is doing well! I'm reaching out to the community for some assistance regarding my 2004 E55 AMG (M113K W211). I'm currently facing an issue with the rear Airmatic suspension; the rear air compressor and airbags are not inflating or holding air.

To begin the necessary repairs, I need to raise the rear of the vehicle high enough for transportation and to allow for proper access from the floor for the work to be done. However, I’m not sure of the best method to safely elevate the rear suspension without causing further damage.

If anyone here has experience or advice on how to manually raise the rear of an E55 AMG with a non-functioning Airmatic system, I would greatly appreciate your input. Are there specific manual overrides, tools, or techniques I should consider?

I’m looking to ensure that I can safely lift the car to facilitate both transportation and repairs. Your guidance would be invaluable, and I’m more than willing to share any tips or insights I have in return as well! Additionally, as I navigate through these repairs, I may need further assistance down the line. I truly value the support of this community, and I’m looking forward to sharing insights and learning from others as well.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Best regards,
THTCTME55AMG

common headache on the W211 E55 when the Airmatic decides to take a vacation. Since your rear suspension isn't inflating, you’re right to be cautious about lifting it—jacking it like a normal car can end up putting stress where it shouldn’t, especially on those collapsed airbags. Easiest and safest method is to use jack stands under the rear subframe and raise it slowly with a floor jack from the diff, just enough to mimic ride height. That way the suspension arms aren’t hanging loose and you’re not risking tearing anything further. Some folks will shove rubber blocks between the subframe and body or use spring spacers temporarily if they have to roll the car onto a trailer.

There isn’t really a true manual override for the system unless you wire power direct to the compressor or solenoids, but that’s kind of a hack job and won’t do much if the bags are leaking anyway. If you just need it to sit high for a tow or repair, mechanical support is the way to go. Be safe under there—this isn’t a Civic.

btw, if your compressor was good you can raise the car as long as you can turn on the ignition. You don't have to start the car.

Yikes:
"jimyj" is a sales pitch. Have a look at any 5 or so of jimyj past posts. You just might notice the artificially personalized robotic responses that, about 80% of the time, happen to mention a certain scanner ;-)

It’s true you could raise the car with as advanced scanners altel is the I use
i had a similar issue my compressor stopped working was to weak to raise my car I used my altel to raise it but after a few months it wouldn’t raise at all
I changed the compressor and filter also new relay replaced a damaged rubber hose and now so far so good back in business
im monitoring each side front back see if it settles or lowers but been holding well .
i will be calibrating it soon feel like the back is sitting higher then the front
best bet is to try to get your hands on a altel and raise it is your compressor cutting off after a few seconds? If it’s just the back could also be coming from a valve block leak

When it comes to serious diagnostics, I strongly recommend getting SDS (XENTRY/DAS, laptop, & multiplexor). Even Autel can miss something. And I do have an Autel MaxiDAS. But I also have iCarsoft, LAUNCH Creader Elite BENZ, BlueDriver, and others. They may be good for their intended use, but none beats XENTRY. If you go that route, I recommend contacting @BenzNinja for a bonafide copy and not something you have to run in a VM or that has been hacked.
