Collection of E55 fuel pump circuit information
looking back to six months ago. i was completely clueless. it felt harder than it was.
in reality "it's just four wires"
but once i got the juices flowing barry and i made a masterful team.
as such, and as the saying goes,
THE EARLY BIRD(WELL) gets the worm
here's a pretty detailed step-by-step process at wiring in E55 fuel pumps using the single fuel-pump relay on non-AMG cars
can't believe this was 6 months ago. if my car stops working i'm blaming the higher power and not posting about this project ever again
the plan
thy vessels (lol)
the haul (thank you so much bobby at i-80 in gary indiana, home of the great one)
the hypothesised power source
splitting the original fuel pump relay circuit for the two-relay circuit
setting the contact pins for the power and grounds of each relay
splitting the power from the power source using 4SQ wire
how it looks from the front. in retrospect i probably should have gotten JAARMAHN hella relays, but whatever. relays are relays, and these little holes in the relay are handy.
decided on using high quality quick connects on the fuel pump connector, just in case it ever fails in the future. i doubt it will since it is the latest revision and seemed brand new. the little filter baggie thing was spotless.
a view of the dual relay setup, which is now ready for input from the main power and single fuel pump control circuit.
leveraging the abundance of power from the rear-prefuse, using the same location and maxi-fuse as the E63
tapping the single fuel pump relay control circuit using scotchloks. for the critics, they are great and i haven't had one fail, but i also use THE TOOL (not regular pliers). the unique identifier for this splicing technique would not be used on garbage connectors. just don't use ****ing pliers and buy the right tool.
a bird(well)'s eye view (he was with me the whole way)
now the least fun part of fishing the ****ing filter hoses to the other side
ugh thankfully this hose made it easier.
hard part is done.
time to get myself connected (holler at me, rob from stereomcs)
all connected and ready to go
tidied
tidier. a note: it's even cleaner now because i had to pull the whole most harness to the trunk when i ran the beam for rear folding seats, but this is still stock-looking and completely faithful to the OEM design.
if my car stops working tomorrow because of the higher power's displeasure of this reveal, then no more pictures. i waited over 6 months for the first share.
i think these pictures should give anyone who needs to do this a clear idea of what barry and i were doing and the best way forward.
i am happy barry was so kind and patient, and that i had no choice but to listen to him. the relays get quite warm so i am happy i used 4SQ wire instead of the stock 14ish gauge.
