Allright, I know I am going to sound like an idiot but my '04 does not have the telephone and I do not think I have any voice command control. Can someone please help me understand what is going on? Does it only work with the phone? Should my car have it?

The voice recog. unit is a silver colored box that mounts in your trunk next to the linear compensator for the phone kit. It is activated by a stalk that you add on your steering column. While it has some radio function capabilities, it mostly is helpful operating your MB V60 phone which of course, only works when you have the V60 integaration Kit. Does that answer your question?

 

Thanks E55. Does every '04+ come with it? I have no stalk (and no phone).

 

Voice command and the phone are options for the E55. If you didn't order them you don't have them. They do not come with every e55.

 

Damn! Didn't know that when I ordered. Any idea on retrofitting voice command?

 

It is easily possible as the car should already be wired for it. Take a look at Paul's site Some good info there. It's really neat, and it does much more than the just the phone. Change CD's, tracks, switch to the radio, change stations, answer a call, etc.

 

One warning about the voice recognition software. It doesn't understand southern redneck very well. I have given it lessons over and over and it still caint git er dun....
I had it added to my 05 along with the V60i phone with little or no hassle. It is normally a dealer installed addition and I don't think that they come from the factory with them installed.
