Replacement E55 finally here!
* I was a big fan of the old clamshell console, but to much to my surprise, I actually like the new sliding tambour door version. The new cupholders inside finally offer a place to safely store my sunglasses and I felt no elbow discomfort using it as an arm rest.
* I was considering getting some type of aftermarket metal pedals, but I was surprised to find mine came standard with the SL style pedals right from the factory:
I'll post better pics shortly - too busy falling in love with the beast all over again!

I looked at the new console yesterday and it looks great. Reminded me of my first 400E form many years back.
I asked about how a factory phone was fit into it and dealer said that it took the place of one of the cup holders.
Congrats
The upgraded Swheel really makes the interior cozier + the
metal pedals I think is a nice touch.
I did not follow why you had to get a replacement but here's
hoping that this one is trouble free for you

I'm up an informal get-together for Atlanta area owners.
According to magazine reports, the new steering rack from the CLS would be installed on E55's, beginning with November production. According to tommaey, (see https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...steering+ra0ck ), it's been installed in all E55's since July, including my old one.
It's also installed as part of the new W211 E350 Sport Package, which has already been released in Europe, and which also includes the metal SL pedals.
My car completed production on 12/09/04 and shipped on 12/12/04. My car also includes the metal SL pedals - the first W211 that I've heard of to come stateside so equipped from the factory. Maybe it's a placebo effect, but the steering does seem to be more responsive, both on-center and in transient maneuvers.
Wish I could offer more definitive info, but I'm limited to subjective impressions for now.
I purchased the MP Designs Sport steering wheel when I bought the old car. Part of my agreement with the dealer was that it would be transferred to the new car. Both the old and new cars came with the standard E55 all-leather steering wheel.
