Anyone experience trouble with their transmissions?

One of my 03 E's went in the shop for a transmission issue.
The dealer said new transmissions are on back order...

Anyone else have any trouble with theirs?

I've heard there have been transmission issues across the W211 cars. I know for the early '03 E55, there was a tranny computer replacement available for certain cars. On my '04 E55, the transmission is jerky at times. Sometimes, the car would suddenly upshift very hard when coming to a stop. This would usually happen in stop-and-go traffic. The dealer uploaded some new tranny software and the car seems to be shifting smoother. I think the problem with my car is the AMG Speed Shift transmission gets confused since it wants to hold the gears for optimal performance, but sometimes, wants to suddenly upshift...creating this surging feeling.

Although my dealer offered to investigate more, I've pretty much learned to deal with the tranny, and avoid sudden throttle lift ups...but of course, in stop in go traffic, that's very hard to predict, and i just deal with it.

Automobile Magazine wrote about this in their review of the CLK 500 w/ 7G Tranny. They talked about passing a truck and the car kickdown a gear, and did a wierd upshift...i don't remember exactly, but my experiences were similar to what they described.

I don't know if this is a transmission issue, or simply an engineered safety mechanism built into the transmission. But when I back out of a parking space and put the car into Drive to pull away, the transmission takes a second or so for Drive to engage. Pretty annoying, especially when you are backing into a busy street (or making an illegal U-turn ).

Is this common?

I find a sliding 180 is easer and faster than an illegal U-turn, every time.

How long is the delay?

A full second. Seems like twenty minutes.

Sliding 180? Hmmm, need to try that one.
