Worst Day Ever...Please Help

Well, classes were closed today because of the frickin monsoon that we're experiencing here in LA. Sounds good right...it gets worse. Went to the auto show with some friends, that was fun, until it happened. On the way home I hit a huge puddle and a few seconds later I was getting a malfunction from my front right side marker. I have the Euro impact strips so I'm assuming that the resistor tape or something came off the cap where the light was and I'm getting a fault from the missing light. And next...even worse. My friend gets out and what is on my passenger floor mat? A HUGE WAD OF CHEWING GUM! YUCK. Anyway, I have no idea how to get that stuff out, so if anyone has any tips or hints, please help out. I think I'm going to go to Bev Hills MB tomorrow to have them check out the light but honestly I really don't know how to go about fixing these two disasters ( ), so any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

What I've tried for gum is this...

Get some ice, lots of it. Freeze the gum over. Then chip away at it with a dull knife. See if that works. The gum has to be really frozen.

Other then that, you might have to get new mats.

I'll take the easy one, the gum:

Top Of The Line sells a product that fixes this problem. I know some people who have used ice cubes to freeze the gum. And others have said that compressed air cans for cleaning computers works too.

Whichever way you go, the gum needs to be frozen hard then chipped off the carpet. Its not hard to do once you know how to do it.

For the chewing gum, try taking the mat out of the car and use ice. The coldness of the ice makes the gum harden and you can rub it out. I'm sure that there are chemical solutions that you could buy, but you always run the risk of staining the mat. I would try ice first. Good luck.

Haha will do. Thanks for the tips guys. If the ice doesn't work I guess I'll just take it to a car wash/detail shop and see what they can do. Doesn't really matter to me cuz I'm not payin for it! -Thanks again-

Four for the ice trick - crude but sometimes effective. Personally, I'd also bite the bullet and invest in an extra set of oem AMG floormats. You might not need 'em until you sell the car, but it's some quick-solution added insurance.

Freon-based spray-on's used to be the solution - long-since banned in California.

“Umm yeah (insert your insurance agency’s name here), my E55 was totaled yesterday.”
“Oh it was horrible…bubble gum on the passenger side floor mat!”
“So when can I expect the insurance check?”
“Hello? Hello?”

There is a product you can get at Home Depot that can remove gum and other sticky substances. It is called something "orange" something (can't remember the name of it but I believe it had "orange" in it).

That product is amazingly effective, I have used it and it turns the gum into a paper like substance that just comes right out. You have to be careful about carpet fiber too because it could cause the adhesive of the carpet to unglue as well.

Good luck and let us know what worked!

It might be called goo gone. That stuff really dissolves adhesives. I think it may work on gum too.

If you want, you can also try really freezing that gum with liquid nitrogen. I have access to some.

Yes, goo gone works and so does WD40 I believe. I have personally removed gum using goo gone it's not a problem don't worry.

From the post title, I thought you ran someone over, or got DUI. Geez, if those are your biggest problems, you are doing pretty well

I guess I'm doing well then. I might have exaggerated a little, but whenever bad stuff happens to my car I get that sick feeling. I'm sure you guys know what I'm talking about. I appreciate this thing like no other and I hate to see it get messed up.
