Peter,
Clean up the oil right away. Oil eats away at rubber over time and also causes slippage isses. The best way to clean oil up is to use brake cleaner (that's what I use anyways). Brake cleaner wont eat at rubber and will evaporate as you are using it.
Good luck.

think i got it all. a guy who write a column for the post and is on motor week, named pat goss does a weekend show and is the man! he said (thanks for the tip vrus) that brake kleen makes any shiney plastic or rubber dull so he told me not to use your sugg. there is a gunk enviro cleaner in a green can that leaves no smell. so a couple cans, a few minuted and a pressure washer and voila! dumb *** move averted! by the way, lights are piaa hyper white 55w and those pieces were off to get aluminized (chromed) thanks for the tips all.

I've used the Orange Gunk cleaner before.. I use that when I do power washes of my engine compartment. I use to do that once every 2 weeks on my 993 TT but I never tried it on the Mercedes because it has too many electrical components under the hood..
Glad you got it cleaned up.
