How to black out badges?

Remove badges and adhesive tape from rear. Lightly wet sand with fine grit sandpaper. Dry. Spray with your choice of paint and clear coat if need be.
Let dry, reapply adhesive tape backing, install on car.

Another way is to have the local company that does the "lovely" gold insignia "upgrades" for new car dealers, black them out. I believe it is a black chrome process that they do on the car. Ask a dealer or check the Yellow Pages.

Yup, there is a "Smoke/Block Chrome" process. Many of the late model Lexus vehicles have these types of badges that the dealers put on aftermarket. They are smoked dark but have a sheen to them. Pretty nice finish actually.
