2004 E55 Hesitation on Acceleration
I have noticed over the last couple of days that if i am just cruising along with out giving the car that much gas, and then give it some it feels almost like it is going to stall occationally. This has happened several times. Maybe a bad tank of gas? Also is it normal when you are in neutral and rev the engine up, it wont rev past 4000rpm. Is this to protect it from over revving or is something fishy with my car?
Thanks,
Todd

Yes there is a rev limiter so you wont damage the engine when the car is in neutral. As for the hesitation issue, you might want to have the dealer check that out. Try Chevron's Fuel System Cleaner, it is quite possible that you have a bad tank of gas, but highly unlikely.

I had a similar problem. My father's E55 responds instantaneously, and for some reason mine felt (and still does) alot heavier and thus, slower. I took into my service center and told them to run it through STAR to make sure everything was ok (ie. supercharger, intercooler, etc.) The MB tech kept telling me that everything was ok, he even drove my car to see for himself yet still insisted that it was fine. I told them to run the tests anyway and sure enough they replaced an intake manifold? and some sensors that weren't responding. I actually felt a difference afterwards (improvement, obviously) but now it seems like its back to its old self. I might go back...Think about taking it in, it might help.

My understanding is that MB programs the stock ECU to have a lag or lack of throttle response when hitting the gas. It was noticed by my buddy who had a Renntech ECU and then had it brought back to stock before selling. He noticed a big difference when he drove the car again with the stock ECU.

I think I have this too. If you're referring to a slight lag (almost like the engine is missing or is not getting full spark for about 1 second) then it seems to kick in. I thought it was a delay in the supercharger making power. Don't know if we're talking about the same apples, but I have a low speed, low rpm delay before the rockets takeover.

Perhpas it has something to do with the bypass valve where I assumed the power was going when there was no demand from the throttle pedal?
