Wheel Offset

I'm deciding on 19", 20" wheels for my beast (Lorinser, Brabus, AMG..) and I'm not familiar with offsets. After doing a search, I came up with all kinds of differnet numbers ranging from ET30~ET39. I'm now very confused. Can anyone tell me which one is the correct offset???

2003 E55
Anyone?!?
I've narrow it down to two set of wheels, the SL65 wheels with an offset of ET25 front and ET28 rear and 20" Lorinser wheels with ET38 all around.
Which one will fit on my E55?

I didn't reply before because I don't know the answer to your question, but, since no one else gave you the information I thought I would reply so you don't think everyone is ignoring you... (j/k)

You should first decide on which vendor you want to deal with on the wheels. I am sure the vendor will have the information you are looking for. If he doesn't, pick a different vendor.

I am not 100% sure but the ET25 and ET28 SL65 wheels will NOT fit the E55 due to brake clearance. I am almost positive the ET38 Lorinsers will fit though. My aftermarket wheels are ET36 in the front and ET32 in the rear- the fronts barely clear the brake calipers.

I also know that 19inch BBS LM's with ET32 will fit our cars.

Stay around an ET around 35. The stock E55 wheels are 18x8 ET31 (front) 18x9 ET35 (rear). Bigger and wider wheels may not have as much problem clearing the break as they will with rubbing on the inside or the outside. Tire size too will keep that from happening. Otherwise if you are looking at larger wheels than stock, you may need suspention mods and rolled fenders.

What year is your E55? A W210 wants to have offsets that are close front and rear. A W211 wants to have a low offset in front (around ET30) and a high offset in rear (around ET40). It depends on what wheel width and tire width you want to run. Running a low offset in the rear (between ET30-ET35) will limit the width of tires you can use on the rear.

A W210 should not use 14mm bolt wheels like those found on the SL65; a W211 requires wheels that will clear 14mm bolts.

you wanna stay at a 35-38mm in the front depending on wheel design..and about a 32-35mm in the rear because you have a little more caliper clearance.

Hi all, as for tire size for 20 inch wheels on the Beast, will it rub if I go with this set up? I plan to lower the car after getting the wheels installed.
20 x 8.5 (front) 245/35/20
20 x 10 (rear) 285/30/20

I've been patiently getting as much info as I can before putting in the order, thanks!

2003 E55
Thanks Guys!
To clear things up a bit, the the E55 that I'm referring to is a W211. And the wheels that I'm looking at are used. As far as I know they both came off from the new SL. So it seems like the offset on those two sets of wheels are totally incorrect for my car. I guess I have start looking again!!

Ok so now I know the stock wheels have an offset of ET31 front and ET35 rear. And wheels with ET38~ET32 would work, but is it the best if I stick with the factory offest when looking for aftermarket wheels??

You're going to have a major problem with fitment if you go 285/30/20 in the rear.. The overall diameter of the tire size you propose is 1.43" wider than the 265/35/18 so its going to hit the fenders...

285/25/20 is a better fit, diameter is only 0.3" wider than stock or 1.22% difference.

Sticking to factory offset is the best way to ensure that the wheels/tires do not rub... but if you know someone who pushed the size/offsets without running into any issues, by all means go for it

The W211 uses 14mm bolt holes. Don't get a set of wheels with only 12mm holes. The spacing is the same but the hole size and ball seat are larger.

sillyent, why dont you just go with a 9" wheel in the front? what offsets are they using for that setup?

A 25 series tire will ride terrible and your chances of a bent wheel increase.

I guess you've never had a set of bigger aftermarket wheels before...ALL wheel/tire setups beyond 18" are gonna trade off ride comfort for looks...just how it is and how its always gonna be...

Thats true, but its the only way to fit 20's on a E55 while having the tire circumference as close to original as possible. Plus having 30's in the back isn't going to look right and probably going to rub.

The ride is only as good as the tires you use. Ride quality will generally feel the same unless you're traveling on extremely bumpy roads.

According to this, these will work okay on a W211 E55 then, right?

19 x 8 in the front offset 32
19 x 10 in the rear offset 40
with hubcentric rings.
the lip on the front wheels is about 1.5 and the rear lip is about
2.5

What do Audis like the A4/ A6 use, 14mm bolt holes?

25 profile fits and 30 profile will rub. I know because I tried. All 20's ride hard on the e55 with either 25 or 30 profile. However, it looks sick and that's why you want them.

Is this true of 19's also or just the 20's?

Which one will fit on my E55?
FRONT:
OE Front 18" rims are 8" wide and have offset EA 30. I have SL55 rims which are 8.5" wide offset ET30 and they look better ie stick out 1/4'' more out of fender. My 245/40/18 PS2 also fit better on the wider rim. They are 249mm wide instead of 240mm on the 8" rim. Go with 19x8.5 ET30 rims and 245/35/19tires FRONT, or 20x8.5 or 20x9" and 245/30/20 tires ET30.
REAR:
More critical here and most mistakes will result in rubbing.
OE 18x9' rims have ET39 and it is not a good look. Wheels sit way too far in the wheel well. 275/35/18 PS2 are only 267mm wide on the 9" rim. I put on 18x9.5" ET33 PS2 275/35/18. This tire is now 278mm wide on the 9.5" rim and fits within 3mm of the rolled inner edge under full compression of the air spring.
Therefore go with 19x9.5" ET33 275/30/19 tires or if you want to go wit a wider tire like 285/30/19 on a 19x10' rim, I would increase the offset to ET38
AS for 20" rim, go 20x10" ET38, 285/25/20 tires.
I hope I did not confuse you too much. PM if you need more detail.
