RACE START

GRRRR! I have yet to get this to work. I dont know what I'm doing wrong.
Dual lane divided road at a light.
I'm at the pole position at the light so nothing in front of me
Car is in Drive
Tried all ESC modes
suspension maxed
Steering wheel is straight
I dont know what my issue is. It just never goes into RS.
2011 e63 6.3 na.

I agree, it's the most finicky thing to get right...
For those who have tracked their car at the dragstrip... the reported 1/4 mile times and 60 ft times are not significantly different when using RS vs. brake torquing in S+
I think it's easier to just brake torque to launch this car

TBH...sport+ and a half throttle launch off the line is good enough for the most part tbh. Would be nice to see what it can do with launch control though.

Couple guys took their 63's to the track and reported about the same 60ft and 1/4 et and traps .... With either RS or brake torque in s+

I have now done quite a few runs at the strip, and all the best ones were with Race Start....maybe not by much, but when you want the best possible time Race Start is the way to go, even if you have to get it to work real quick once you're at the lights and staged.

What kind of numbers did you get

By 'brake torque', you mean when then gas pedal is held down a little but the left foot applies the brakes until you're ready to go? I didn't know the car allowed that. My E55 didn't seem to respond well to that at all back in the day. I'll try that tonight.

-With Race Start my best 60ft times were : 1.787, 1.792 and 1.799 for a 1/4 mile in 11.19 @ 126.58
-By Brake torquing in S+ with ESP off, I got best of: 1.877 and 1.900 for a 1/4 mile in 11.36 @ 125.97

For best results put Trans in S+ or Manual and ESP button either in Sport Mode or Traction OFF (better with the AWD of 2014+))

I do not understand why Mercedes and BMW both make race start so confusing/difficult to use. In my 2014 Porsche 911 Turbo S it is so simple:
1. Push the sport plus button.
2. Left foot on brake while flooring the accelerator with the right foot.
3. Once the engine revs (which give you a race start/launch control alert on the display), let go of the brake and off you go. A 5 year old could do it.

It is too complicated. I would much prefer the Porsche method you describe.
Some thoughts on quickly accelerating
- MCT tranny does not work well in M mode, you need to pull that paddle well in advance of redline in first
- S+ is great on the track but if I am driving slowly in 1st and waiting to punch it, say in a low speed merge or (God forbid) I am waiting to see if the guy next to me is going to try and outrun me from a light and I don't want to be the first to flinch and floor it S+ will shift up too quickly. It is too similar to S mode at low speed, it should hold first longer.

I feel like the window of time you have once you've actually initiated race start is like 2 seconds
Almost engineered to deter use of race start to spare strain on the drivetrain etc
