Hey - For those in legal states, any opinions on what you feel is the best out there? V1, Beltronics, Escort?
I know there are a thousand different sites out there, but they all read like they are getting sponsor money from one company or the other so would greatly appreciate your opinions and experiences.
Thanks!

I have an escort SRX and it's saved my azz more than a dozen times. V1 is incredible device too, a lot of my buddies run that and have no complaints. Don't let the police ruin your day, just wave at them when you cruise by

Most radar detectors work similarly and have the same functions. You can't go wrong with any of the ones on your list. The newest detectors have radar jammers but those run in the neighborhood of $2k

You can do a SEARCH and find lots of discussions about this topic on the 211 forum section.
I have both & like both. I prefer the V1 on the freeway b/c of the arrows, and I don't mind its sensitivity. Once you've driven a while w/the arrows, you'll probably never go back to anything else that just chirps.
However I DO really like the Passport's GPS function, which keeps track of where you are and where the speed cams/regular false alarms are and prevents them from false alarming.

I've had an Escort 8500 X50 Blue for the past 4 years now and have been really satisfied with it. It even picks up Laser but by time it alerts you to it you are toast. Escort sells the ZR4 Laser Shifter that works together with the more advanced Escort Radar Detectors. Meaning; you can plug the Laser Shifter into a port on the Radar Detector and get Laser warnings on the same display as your radar detector. I don't have the Laser Shifter but the radar detector does get a thumbs up from me

Thanks everyone. I'm looking at Bel STI Driver. Any one have any opinions on that one? I can pick one of those up for about 350 new and from what I hear, they are very good and on par with the other premium ones

Radar Roy is a retried cop and has a website that is dedicated to Radar Detectors. It's called Radar Busters (http://www.radarbusters.com/). I used his site when I was shopping for one.

I have been using beltronics in australia, upgraded every two years and it saved me on quite a few occasions.
Now that I am in Indonesia, no need for it. No speed cameras or radars. lol

So i got a really good deal on an escort redline today. Now i'm undecided but one of them needs to go back. Which should I keep: Bel STI or Escort Redline?

edit: and the only ticket's I've gotten were for speeding in PA, where they "clocked" me using lines on the road, and before I had this system. Not saying it works 100%, but it deff helps.

Personally I prefer the Escort Passport 9500ci. It will cost you $1700-2k including installation but it is hidden perfectly behind the front bumper grills, the only thing giving it away is the laser shifters on the license plate bracket. I have one of these on both my X5M and E63 and absolutely love them in the motorcycle cop mecca I live in. The simple functionality of it is great, and there are nice customizable features as well for the savvy detector user. The display can be mounted anywhere in your car to your preference, and if you do happen to get pulled over the chance of a cop noticing it in your car is slim to none. If you don't want to pony up the dough for the Escort, from my experience the V1 is the next best thing. I have had V1's for 8 years or so and have only received one speeding ticket since (I was driving my F430 Spider and the cop told me he "estimated my speed in excess of 80 mph since I had to go 120 down the on-ramp just to catch you" - tell me how that makes sense, never had me on radar). The arrows on the V1 are what makes it a fantastic detector, but my complaints with it are the lack of laser shifting (once you get popped you're already screwed), and the suction cups on the mounting bracket always wear out and leave marks on the windshield. There is the option to have it hard wired to the car, but if you are going to the trouble to pay for that you might as well opt for the Escort IMO. Since detectors are illegal in some states, if you pass through them the V1 becomes a liability, and the Escort, although also illegal, is undetectable by radar detector detectors so you can speed informed and in stealth! It's a no brainer for me, but if money is an issue I would go with a V1.

As far as detecting a cop radar they are pretty effective, its the "jamming" feature that didnt work past two feet.

I have a 9500 CI - the laser jammer works. It has jammed lasers repeatedly and down to 150 ft. I do not doubt it a bit.
The radar is another thing, though. It is lousy, mainly, I think, b/c it is mounted so low and is usually masked by other cars. It also only faces forward. I am seriously considering getting a V1 for radar and keeping the Escort for laser.
