Need advice, E63 or
I need your advice guys! I am torn between buying an E63 early next year or just wait for the new e550 biturbo engine. Initial figures state that the cl550 0-60 is around 4.6, so I expect performance to be even closer in an e-class. What would you do if you were in my place, get the NA e63 or biturbo e550 and save since performance (most likely) will be very close??

I guess it depends on how MB tunes the engine/transmission/suspension for the new E550. AMG tuned cars are definitely sportier than non-AMG ones, if that's what you're looking for. Otherwise they're both fast and comfortable daily cruiser.

I have a feeling the new biturbo 4.7L will be a real monster! Since its going to be launched first in the CL/S, there will be some feedback this year concerning engine reliability or problems
cheers

2008 SL 63 AMG R230
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_M156_engine
The M156 is the first V8 automobile engine designed autonomously by Mercedes-Benz subsidiary Mercedes-AMG, as previous AMG engines have always been based on original Mercedes engines. The engine was designed to be a naturally-aspirated racing unit, and will also be used in a number of high-performance "AMG"-badged Mercedes-Benz models.
The M156 displaces 6,208 cc (6.208 L; 378.8 cu in) and shares very little with other Mercedes-Benz engine families like the M155. The bore spacing, block design, and other features are unique to the AMG engine.
Although it displaces 6.208 liters, the engine will be marketed as the "6.3" to commemorate the famed M100 used in the 300SEL 6.3.
The engine uses a 102.2 mm (4.02 in) bore and 94.6 mm (3.72 in) stroke. Output is 375 kW (503 hp) at 6800 rpm with 630 N·m (464.7 lb·ft) of torque at 5200 rpm.
The engine, however, has been uprated to produce 525 hp (391 kW) (and 465 lb·ft (630 N·m) of torque) in the late 2007 S 63, E 63, SL 63, CLS 63 & CL 63 models[1].
Mercedes has claimed it is the world's most powerful naturally-aspirated V8 engine.

I can gaurantee you the 2010 E63 will be faster and sportier than any non-AMG E-class. No brainer in my opinion if you can afford the extra money for the E63.

Plus the 2010 W212 E63 has the best suspension of any E class with springs up front for better handling, a 13.1 to 1 steering ratio for quicker turn in, and a wider front track.
Basically its the best handling E class thus far.

The E550 is an E Class Mercedes. The E63 is an AMG E Class Mercedes. If you're only looking for a decent motor, then get the E Class. If you want more, then get an AMG. Sounds like you're only interested in 0-60, therefore get the E550.

Honestly, not only interested in 0-60. I love AMG cars sooo much! In fact I don't see myself ending up in a non AMG verison. But I would be kinda upset if it wasn't superior by a more than a slight margin to its non-amg 4.7L e-class.

The overall package is that much superior. Brakes, suspension, transmission, P030 package, better leather, etc..
Mercedes-Benz AMG GmbH is pretty smart with their marketing and price points. They won't devalue an E63 in favor of an E550.

AMG Power:
I suspect you will also need to be very patient in your wait for the 4.7TT in the E-Class. I would be surprised if it makes it into the 2012 MY W212 as that will be the year that they showcase it in the new CLS and CL coupe. I don't think we will see that engine until the mid-cycle refresh of the W212 in MY 2013 or 14.
Also, the power figures for that engine in the upcoming 2012 CLS550 are 402 hp and 443 ft-lbs of torque (which would likely be the same when in the E-Class). Those are strong numbers, but you would still be 116 hp short of the 6.2L V8 of the current E63 (and down some on torque as well). I am sure you can ramp up the boost on the 4.7TT but stock vs stock that is a significant horsepower difference.

it is strange how many black E63s are out there vs. other colors! the supply is much less than last year, it was much easier to find colors, options etc. according to your liking!

Makes sense. At first, I was hearing much higher numbers for the 4.7TT motor. Then I looked at the new BMW 550i TT and it has about 400HP so I did not see MB going much higher than that. Again, strong numbers, but in the AMG realm on things. I knew the initial numbers I heard for the MB engine were way too high as soon as the 550's numbers were official.
