2 different beasts... a new (but old) versus a new engine TT with the same hp? A new older version that has limited mod abilities versus a new TT that with a simple tune is up 100hp at the crank if not more....

Not a tough decision... when you are actually gonna get one? Lots of posts and questions--- I think its time!!!!

i know man its killing me

initally my plan was to do some mods on my c320, rims exhasut, tune, but that is so limited, then the plan was to trade it for a c55 of similar milage, so i can have a little more fun.

then, i realized that the car itself is small for having 2 car seats in the back so i was leaning towards a w211 e63, but not for long, even tho money wise they are good deal

then im like why not a 2010 e63, cpo, almost sorta got one but it got sold before i got to it.
now im just moving up the ladder, and now i want a new 2011 or 2012,

obviously i need to put a number down as to how much i am going to spend and then just buy what fits in that
Especially when the price of buying a CPO 2010 is around 70 and a brand new with PP is around 110000, I need to figure if its worth 40000 difference in price is worth it

we tend to buy cars and never lease, and im not sure if thats always the best way.

we always to tend to keep our cars for a long time, as u can see from my sig
I drive the w126 4-5 times a week, its pristine
parents have the w140, 220, 221, with the older 2 combined 400,000 miles. And all still run decent. BUt the w140 and 220 obviously are pricey to fix.

in terms of the E's I say right now, i wouldnt do any tuning, but who knows what i would do in the future
ive always chided my brother for messing with his RS4 2008, as it is pretty bad *** stock but he has dicked around with it

You say the new old engine isnt tunable, but isnt weistec getting another 100 out of it.

In terms of everyday driving i suppose 518 hp, or 550hp will do the same function , i just need to lay my ego down and just get something,
thank you and good night now

Youve got two kids and if you have to think about the $$$, then i say save the 40. The NA motor is still fun. It may not be as visceral as the TT but with two kids, you'll be doing a lot less eviscerating than you might think . Just my opinion. Like I said, if you have to think this much about it, then save the cash...you'll still have a lot of fun....when the kids aren't in the car.

This is a completely different comparison, when you are starting to consider a used car with a new one.

There is no way Weistec got 100 hp (tune only) out of a NA E63.... sorry or all of us would be there. That has to be a composition of many items which may include tune, headers, exhaust, etc... or their supercharger and then we are talking a whole new ballgame in regards to price and other things.

This is the exact route I have been considering.

I do not think a new 2011 at $10k off is all that great of a deal. Would have to be at least double the discount to seem like a deal and only if then it was a color/option combo that I absolutely wanted.

What color are you thinking about? The Mercedes color palette isn't that varied. You could special order a matte color. Or you can do what some other members have done on the forum which is to get the car wrapped. There is a car somewhere in this forum with a great matte black wrap. It was white previously but you would never be able to tell.

Forget who the the poster was but they have adv.1 wheels. Try their site, they have the car posted there as well.

Yeah the 40000$ difference is if i got a 2010 CPO, they are around 70 or so

in terms of a new 2011, what do you guys think is realistic for a number, more than 10000 off?

i dont see them budging much with the 2012s, esp if i put an order, i remember even with my c320 6 yrs ago, we ordered it and that what we paid

in terms of color, i like the steel grays, or that designo blue, heck granite gray is a great color, love it on my C
i just think the regular black and silver are common, they look nice, but common,
that black diamond tricoat the ctsv is amazing

I have now had two dealers tell me $20k off on their new 2011 cars. That was without me even attempting to discuss price. Best I can tell you get almost $5k in "free" options and tax savings when comparing new cost of a 2012 to a 2011. With that being the case I'd personally expect more than $10k off or I'd just order a car the way I truly want it to be instead of settling on an older model still taking up dealer space.

We might have to relocate overseas in 2012 so put the serious car shopping on hold. So greatly depends on once we find out if we are staying or not. Been told will know in late January but also been told may not know until April. With that being the case I think I may just wait for some 2012s to get out of lease.

If I were still planning to buy today then it would be a CPO car. One on Autotrader right now optioned out how I'd want one for under $70k and under 9k miles, 2010 model.

W212 E63, 1994 Defender D90-Wifes, Panamera Turbo- Wifes, Track Car- looking... :(
I had a similar consideration. I had a 2007 W211 E63 and was looking at waiting for a 2012 PP or getting a used (3k miles) 2010 version.

I was able to get a loaded 2010 with a 135K MB wtty for $80K (this was in Feb of 2011).

Couple of things that I thought about--

#1 NA motors will always sound better and frankly have less moving parts-and potential to fail. (I know if I had a turbo'd motor, I'd do an ECU flash and then expose myself to wtty denial issues. I'm in Dallas, the summers are harder on the turbos and I've had a few turbos in the past with issues.

#2 I wanted to keep this car for a while (5 years min)

#3 The money I save I can put into my track car fund..... (hoping for a 2010 GT3 in a year or so)

Besides, if I'm going to wait, I may as well wait for an F10 M5. I've had 2 E63s, and while I do love them, I think my next 4 door saloon might be an M5. I love the CLS but, I have a 2 yr old and another (any day now..... Mamas about to pop!) so, I need the extra space......

I could see the obvious desire for the twin turbo, and with the cheap HP mods available (RennTECH has 669 hp for a $3495 ECU flash) .... I wouldn't blame anyone.

But, for me, the additional HP comes in the same package for about $45K more with only a 4/50K wtty........... So, it was an easy decision.....

best of luck

I agree, if I was to wait for the 2012 E63, might as well wait and compare it to the new M5. Free maintenance on the M5 I think.

Personally I would not consider a 2011 with 10k off a great deal. Most 2011's here in Texas are at least 100k - 109k, so with 10k off, that's not a huge price difference from the 2012. 20k I might start thinking. 25k plus my USAA discount of 2000, then I might be driving a new 2011 E63.

We have two kids, well still in the house at least, a 2 year old and a 10 year old. We originally were looking into pre-2012 CLS63 cars. Did not even drive one because adjusted the driver side seat and looked in the back and just no way that was going to work out. We then looked at a 2012 CLS550 and were pleasantly surprised at how much more room the back seat offered. After that experience I personally think the 2012 CLS would be fine for a family of four. My wife veto'd the CLS and Panamera both though because she wants a rear bench seat so the ten year old can get in/out of their backpack to do homework when commuting in that car.

This to has been my basic thoughts on the new 2011 cars out there. I also look at it as a base 2012 is around $90k and a 2011 with similar options was around $94-95k. So getting a 2011 at $10k off really is probably only saving $5k or so over just getting a 2012.

right because P2 is now standard but not really added into the price of the 2012s, good point

a local dealer apparently has 5 new 2012 's in the 94-96K range, so i assume they are base, without the PP,

their damn websites are sooooooooo vague, no details on option or real pics

so darn annoying
