Matte white wrap?
I want to upgrade my E55.. Found a nice 2009 E63 for a really good price, but I don't like the colour (tenorite grey).
I love the look of matte white, so I am considering a vinyl wrap. I am concerned about the quality of the vinyl though, will it look cheap and nasty (especially in sunlight)? How will it compare to Mercedes' own designo cashmere white?
If I do it, it will be complimented by 20" satin black DPE's, vorsteiner carbon fibre and a blacked out grill. Tell me what you guys think!

You can have a wrap done (especially in matte) that will look almost seamlessly perfect. Plus, you add protection to the original paint. I say go for it!

I like that part about protecting the original paint. Does that mean no more car washing?--I'm all for it if that is the case.

The only thing I would be weary of with a wrap is how much you drive in a day/week. I saw a Gallardo that had been wrapped in matte white and any little chip, bump, ding on the vinyl turned it into a defect.
Just a thought.

Great, thanks for the replies! I got a quote for around ~US$4k, which is surprisingly cheap in Aus
Hmm.. doesn't sound good. I'll do about 30,000km+ (20,000 miles) per year, with one or two 2,000km road trips per year. I'm concerned about the front bumper after a trip like that!

A stone chip on vinyl s no worse than on paint, actually it is better (less chance for damage due to softer material). On clear vinyl the stretched plastic turns white, but given that he's going for white - it will be even less noticeable. Plus, it's always easy to redo the vinyl.
I know because I had white vinyl on the front of my racecar. Easy o clean, hides defects, etc.

was going to wrap my car in vinyl...would have costed me a lil over 2k canadian...after a lot of researching,i opted to keep the original paint....its too much of a hassle to maintain....you have to hand wash it and let it dry under the sun or else you'll get spots everywhere etc etc... you drive on a dirt road or pebbles or wtvr and it chips off like butter...its wayyy too much maintaining...but i admit its pretty nice...and besides i think its a trend that will fade soon enough..especially colors like black but if you're used to over baby-ing your car and have the patience for it...then do it!! but trust me its a pain...

Sounds like a pain. True, just leave it the way it is. Because of the clearcoat on all cars nowadays, I was not even sure about waxing after my semi-annual car wash this past Saturday. But what da heck, so I just waxed it the following day.

Does anybody know if it is doable to do a DIY vinyl wrap. I have ALOT of time, and I'm pretty creative. I love matte black, but can't drop 3K. I have a 2005 S-class. Thanks guys

Of course! anything is doable with ALOT of time! lol
you'll need a good 30 yards or so of vinyl, some application fluid,a squeegee and a heat gun to dry it and......patience!

It reminds me of the same thing with tinting windows--mess it up and you get all those nasty bubbles shortly after.
