The factory turbo setup on the Supra was not what most call a twin turbo. It was more staged just like my 335d is. You had one small turbo that work for the low end and one big turbo for beyond that. This is a real common thing to do on a smaller cubic inch motor that has no real grunt on its own. A twin turbo on the otherhand, both turbos feed into the motor at the same time and are also the same sized turbos. I have had both single and twin turbo mustangs via aftermarket setups. Each can make stupid amounts of power, you just face same lag with the single if trying to make TONS of power but at that level lag is not always a bad thing. My only guess as to why go to a single would perhaps be to free up some space but for what I'd not know. Singles typically are cheaper to do from a manufacturing stand point.
