W212 Custom Carbon Centre Console
I have a 2012 E63 Wagon with PP. I wanted to get some carbon center console pieces to match the rest of the car's carbon trim. Stock, the 2012 pieces are just black piano trim.
Factory, the 2010 and 2011 E63 had carbon temperature control and the 2 side pieces, but the center console itself and ashtray cover were in aluminum look only. To buy the factory Mercedes Pieces from a 2010/2011 would have cost me around 4K. IMO, not worth it.
So www.rotteccarbon.com had their guys in Germany overlay real carbon over stock MB trim pieces. 6 in total: Temperature Control, Ash Tray cover, Center Console, 2 pieces left and right of the center console and the iDrive controller trim.
Here are the results, before and after. I also bought a AMG iDrive cover (ebay $50) to complete the look. For me, I am 100% satisfied!

i was recently thinking about how this project went, been a while...
wow, looks nice, how well does the weave match the original panels (i wonder now if the original panels are actually full cf or just an overlay)
did u get the little trim on the doors also done i think we had pointed out..??
how much did u end up spending?

Hey there, it took a bit longer than expected, and I also didn't get a chance to have them installed until now.
Well, the weave is close, but not exactly the same. Impossible to get it exact unless MB does it themselves. Nonetheless, it is still much closer to the factory carbon pieces than just that black trim right ?
Good enough for me, and I think that the factory pieces are probably an overlay as well.
I do know that the company they used in Germany to make my trim also makes the OEM carbon parts for Maserati.
I didn't do the lower trim pieces on the doors because it would add too much to the cost, but I did have them do the iDrive trim as well.

The factory trims are overlaid onto a plastic piece that then fits into each recess. It's the same for carbon, wood, and aluminum trim. (not sure about granite though)
