2014 E63 - Total Visual Let Down

So i went to the Toronto AutoShow, for the sole purpose of checking out the new 2014 E63 in person. What a disapointment

They have completely smoothed out, what were the original aggresive lines of the E63. The front grill is very awkward and sticks out too much, like the new SL63. They smoothed the hood edges. And most notably, they removed the fender flare details areound the rear fenders and doors. There is nothing aggressive about its appearance, which is the biggest let down because the performance is sure to be incredible with the power boost and 4Matic.

I'm not a BMW guy, but the new M5 was about 20 feet away and just had an awesome stance and presence that new the E63 was completely lacking

It's pretty subtle, but the loss of that sweeping body line that goes down the rear door, giving the fender a slight flare, really takes away for the car

Its just my opinion, but the combination of those styling changes have really numbed the visual impact. Which sucks because i was really considering it as my next car, but when you're dropping so much, i really want some presence to go with the performance......

Check it out if you get a chance....ps the new Vette looks killer, as well as the F-Type Jag

Cannot agree more...was just at Chicago Auto Show...saw the E Class and was so unimpressed. The 2011 (etc) E 63 has such a menacing presence....the front fascia and the dual head lights, the front vent, the lines...everything about it was mean...

I actually CAN'T stand the single headlight with the stupid cat eye look with eyebrows and eye lids, and eye lashes.....etc total aweful and overly artistic...

They rounded too much off and removed too many lines...the only cool thing they added was rear bumper vents, that's about it...

Totally agree...the bumper vents are cool...but then the whole diffuser looks like a tacked on piece....the bumper could have been reworked to give it a more aggressive presence..the exhaust tips look like they've been pushed down way too low

That's what I mean by saying that all the new Mercedes are becoming feminine. It started with the new SL and its Bee eyes. I'm afraid of what's coming next.

The front fender vents were my favourite styling features of the AMG. the new ones here look way too smoothed out and... kind of boring tbh.

I personally dont mind the snout nose of the newer MB... but it kinda does make the car look 'dumber' and less menacing...

Agree'd. They should also have left grill same styles as the old one. If you want a sports grill get a cls lol.

I think mercedes wants to make it look more mainstream?

I do like the single head lights though

What a shame. My Mercedes salesman called me last week and told me to trade in my recently purchased CLS63 and order the 2014 E63. He informed me that he'd seen the car at the Detroit show and it was "stunning". I told him I would need to see it in the flesh before I could make a decision because the release pictures did not convince me. It sounds like the general consensus here is that it's not a stunner.

Glad I waited.

I dunno....I mean you can have all the performance in the world but if you are driving around in a car that looks like a beluga wale who cares???
I don't care if the car can do 0-60 in 2.2 seconds and has a 10,000 HSP engine and has headlights from the Mars project and the insides of a suede jacket....it looks like Barbara Strisand...

Somethings in life will always just look better from behind...I guess if you are chasing this car on the track all is good!

There is no way you should even consider it. The CLS63 has a menacing stance and presence. I have to echo the comment above and say the new E63 is going mainstream and devoid of personality.

The CLS63 looks like a premium performance powerhouse like the M5. The E63 is a let down....

Again, it's only my opinion but hopefully you will get to see one soon as well

Yeah, I'm not feelin it. Hopefully it will look better down the line as they go through refreshes... or at least the completely new one will look better.

Stop insulting the whales damnit..

Also.. as has been said many times all over the planet.. these days many cars all look the same.. simply due to the limitations on design when all design is done in a freaking wind tunnel (well virtual wind tunnel these days).. when it comes to fuel efficiency and shape.. there are only so many shapes.. and over time.. all the different manufacturers end up with the same looking cars.. its sad really.

I totally agree, the new E63 is ugly as hell. Many of the new models hold little visual appeal for me the front ends have been butchered totally.

I reallly love the look of the 10-13 E class... and really disappointed by the new look. I read threads from 2009 talking about how much they hated the w212 design when it was introduced and that quickly went away. I imagined it would be the same for this new design... hate at first followed by love.

(You see this the most when 2007 CL came around... so much hate at first and now it's like an icon of beauty).

Anyways, glad to see your shots and hear from someone who saw this in person. I'd love to see one with some aesthetic mods (CF details/accents etc)... but I am not sure if ANYTHING can save this one lol. Guess I will reserve my judgement but I am pretty disappointed at the moment

I'll be the minority. I love it. The previous generation looked too much like the base E. The only thing they should have done was added the C63 bumps in the hood. Why they don't add those is beyond me.

Did the previous E63 really have flared fenders in the rear compared to the stock E?

The good news is that there will probably be some new front bumper designs from Revozport and others available that will look better and still get to keep the new 5.5TT.
Remember its just a bumper and many of us replaced our "C" front bumpers.

Otherwise I agree, this new front end needs to be redone.

FF. W212 E63 M156 non-pano 18" P2 ParkT NightV (gone but will be missed).
I like those Ponton arches at the rear quarter of the MY2010-2013 car. I also prefer the current quad headlights. Of course, the lower section of the back has lost the coherency of the original design. It looks like everything I have suspected when seeing the first released pictures are all true even when seen in person.

I'm going to miss the original raw and menacing look. I'll be driving my current one for a while anyway.

I'll jump on in and say it isn't that bad, not seen one in person yet, I'll have to wait until they hit the showroom, but I kind of like the combined headlamp design with the weird LED's.....

I like the look of the new car from the photos I've seen... And I don't care for the 'old man' styling of the current car. But based on this thread I won't be putting a deposit down until I see the car in person.
