2014 E63S
Engine Shortage be D*mned: Order placed.

After months of deliberating between the M5 and E63S. decided today to replace my 2011 E63 with the 2014 E63S. My build date is 19 Jan so car will be arriving in late Feb. The engine shortage is a factor and the 19 Jan build date was the first available at Schumacher's. The long wait begins. Ordered polar white, black interior, pano, twin 5 spokes, surround view camera and lane tracking assist. TBD are which tune, Renntech or Kleeman along with downpipes. Without a question of a doubt will also have quad LI's with BEL STIR+ installed. Would love to have ordered B&O but just couldn't get over the lack of having a functional trunk. Love what I'm reading about the new E63S and very eager for it to take it's place in my garage.

What made you pick E63 over the M5 since you already have a 2011 E63?

TIA

'14 E63S, '13 G550, '06 E320 cdi, and a bunch of other stuff.
There are no less than five white sedans just waiting to find good homes. Including one in SoCal and one in Dallas.

Dealers are offering discounts and USAA has $3500 in fleet money.

Please don't ask me that question or I'm likely to drop off into another round of ungrounded indecision! Joking aside the power plant performance numbers of the 14 S coupled with the nonlinear gain of an intermediate Renntech or Kleeman ecu mod sealed the deal for me. All wheel drive coupled with the amazing power potential of the car makes for an addictive daily driver. Loved my 2011 but really there is little commonality aside from the E63 designation between the two.

As for the M5...LOVE the car. The DCT makes for an amazing driver/car interface. Honestly the only thing I can say in the slightest negative way about it is it's size. Just a little too bloated IMHO. I wish Mercedes would couple the entire AMG division with DCT and dump the MCT. As I type the M5 size issue diminishes...hmmmm.

The engine shortage issue creates potential months of continued indecision especially with several at or near invoice quotes on the M5.

Ahhh... the M5 vs. E63 debate. My decision changes daily.

I agree the M5 feels a little bloated, but the DCT and the technology advantage are what attract me. Plus I still prefer the looks of the M5, but that's subjective.

BMW M3
The F10 M5 is certainly a nice, refined automobile for the $120k loaded sticker price. A good friend has left his with me over a few weekends and I have to admit it's the first car out of the M division that has completely lost it's feel. They addressed most of my concerns around lack of steering feel and body roll with the Competition pack. But as a current owner of the E92 M3 and having owned many other M's over the years including the E39 M5, the latest creations out of BMW are mostly losing their drivers edge.

That being said, I'm in the market for something new and am taking a hard look at the AMG vehicles, C63 and E63.
